How does Pharma change post Covid-19?

I'm really worried about how this virus will change Pharma going forward. I can't imagine many of our health institutions will allow reps for some time. Not sure what this will mean for the industry in the future.

Thanks for thread number 150 about how this virus will change pharma. GFY, loser!

I think it will be significantly different for all of us for at least 6 months. Everyone is starting to get antsy about getting back to normal and hitting the field but I believe that 90% of systems will remain off limits or highly restricted for at least 6 months. By next year most will be somewhat back to normal but I wouldn't be surprised if up to 25% remain highly restricted. This is over and above the fact that 50% or more of our targets were appointment / lunch only prior to all of this. Should be interesting for a while and I truly hope AZ continues to really treat everyone as well as they have...It's been impressive.

One thing we can bet on is that not a single rep will ever set foot in a hospital again, let alone be allowed on in treatment areas. This will allow health systems to finally close their offices to reps and lunches. This is over but you already knew that. We can't envision a time when we ever go back to Church and let someone give us a sign of peace or lay the Eucharist in our hands. We have not allowed our kids to visit. We wear masks and gloves to Target and Acme. Forget ever going into a medical facility without an appt with a provider for services.

Georgia is going back to work on Friday. I’ll be in the field Monday. May 15 USA back to normal. Stop with the doom and gloom leftist radical Dr. Fauci agenda.

You must not have read the post...Yes...Georgia and soon every other state will be "open" for business. What you seemed to miss is that the State will be open but your access to being able to do your job will still be closed in the majority of offices. Enjoy riding around in your Isuzu dropping off a periodic lunch or two but you will not be making legitimate calls anytime soon you putz.

Access will only diminish that's a given..... HQ Marketing mgt. will be running cover for the field reps (and also covering their reason for their own jobs) with lots of smoke and mirrors ,but sooner or later Finance will talk to the Executive level and point out that money is still pouring in even though reps are just killing time in parking lots. Sooner or later some (or a lot) money can be saved by reducing field sales.

So same as before?

I agree . For Cancer reps, they will never be allowed n the office again,.They will see the doctors every 3-4 months with an appointment at end of day so you don't contaminate the fragile cancer patients. Hospitals will add more demands on rep trax, more vaccines, health checks and liability insurance.
Primary care will be tougher for the ones who survive the pandemic in business. Some will close. The larger medical centers will be a lot tougher if they allow reps in at all.
Even if the doctors are ok with the reps, the patients will complain and insurance companies may demand reduced access to office or the local govt , think Vermont, Minnesota, and other states that hate drug companes

So almost impossible access for oncology and hospital reps and worse access for the rest

Currently in 21st year of pharma, not that it matters much. Point being, as technology improves, and new ways to access physicians are carried out, this industry is truly on the cusp of another reduction. 10 years ago, there were prob 2x reps. Now we hardly see anyone in the course of a day...now 2-3 max vs waiting for 2-3 prior to "going back. We should not be surprised if, in the next few months, a new novel approach is implemented, such as true virtual sales positions where we are simply a here's the ph# or website for samples, and hey Dr, let me have lunch delivered in exchange for a 5 min conversation. Don't think for a minute 6mos-1yr from now it'll be back to normal routing, make 8 plus calls, Rx calls, evening or in office speaker programs. It'll be very much modified and never return to pre Covid-19 days. But, Blessed to have been a part of this ride for this long. Hang tight and be flexible for what's coming. If you like change, you'll be ok. If you hate virtual selling and 100% working from home, might be time to reevaluate things. Was hoping for at least 5-10 more years at this income level, ( I know being Debbie Downer here vs Positive Peter), but, at least think about it. Hope I'm wrong.
