How come the new hires never get cut in these things?

Is it just me or are the newest hires always safe? Is there some sort of business rule in place here that saves them? Have you ever seen a new hire with in past year cut in a downsizing?

The bottom line, when they go through the process of mapping, these people do not have any Annual Performance Ratings for them to factor in their assessments. They are automatically exempt.

If you notice performance was 3rd on the list of factors in mapping. I think this is the reason.
Sure it will be one of the deciding factors but I think geography and overlap of old and new customers may hold more weight this time.
They know the numbers are screwed up and that is what determines your rating.
If there is a rep who has relationships with the "old" customers like the neurologists, OB's and other reps who have none, this will make a difference.

What about tenure if it is to be one of the factors? No tenure or performance ratings? If I am
cut and they are retained... I will be in my lawyers office the same day. Sick of sexual and age discrimination in my area. I am sure that others feel the same.

I was talking to someone from another company who is a higher up and was involved in Wyeth layoffs and is very surprised that tenure is one of the factors
He said it is setting up the company for lawsuits

"He said it is setting up the company for lawsuits" oooooohhhh, Novartis is scared.

Quit with your stupid bitching and crying and running back to mommy, "you better not fire me or I'll sue..."

Blah blah blah. Sign the severance and move the f*ck on.

Didn't work for the vast majority the last round of layoffs.

Evalutions may have played more of a role in the first round because Novartis had time to reorganize. Now that shit has hit the fan it has speeded up the process. Besides people that were on pips and had 1 between 2007-2009 and were cut was the easy thing to do. Novartis knew that the ranking and annual evaluations were bullshit and had nothing to do with performance. They used it as a bench. There were many people that should have been fired or laidoff and were not due to politics and who ya blew. Now the situation is different and cost, access, and sales territory opportunity will be the main factor. If you live an hour form your territory and you make a ton you will be axed. Other factors are being put in place, which makes more sense from a business model. Hospital will be axed due to tha fact that they bring no value and ROI. This is a reality. The whole system is typical Novartis and in the end they will cut again in the Fall season so if an ass kisser does make this round sure and behold they will be up for the ax in November. Especially when their ass kissin boss is not there to lie and defend them.

Dude you are an idiot. I posted that and the man works for another company. He was just stating his opinion on a process he had been involved with at a different company.
