Seriously, Im in ortho sales for almost 10 years and I have seen over the years capital purchases pretty much get eliminated. Hell, I tried selling a drill line (25K) and had to give them away to get the residual drill bit biz.

Im reading how guys sell robots (1.5million) and im wondering, in what planet are you guys in if you actually get the hospital to buy a capital purchase of that amount.

are hospitals really buying these robots?

I can't believe you spelled Douche bag wrong! As far as the first question, there is a big difference between a stupid ass drill and a 3D high definition surgical system...by the way they are more like $2.2million these days and FYI that's not even a large capital purchase for a hosptial compared to a lot of the other equipment they buy.

seriously?! where do you think those big fancy MRI's, CT's, & cath labs come from? First of all, capital equipment is not called capital just because it's big and expensive...it's called capital because it directly produces income for the hospital...a drill does not. When you look at a company like Intuitive Surgical, having a Da Vinci is a marketing advantage over the competition...who are your competitors??? Black & Decker or Dewalt?

Well, someone finally admitted that the da Vinci is pretty much just marketing. There is a clinical value for GYN ONC cases, Prostates and some Cardiac procedures, but outside of those specialties, that's all the robot is, marketing.

Most Robots are collecting DUST in hospitals. Hospitals buy Da Vinci because Intuitive does good marketing and sends their used car sales rep in for the kill...therefore capital rep gets a hit for the moment....soon to be let go....disposable reps get turned over faster than pharma reps, because procedures are at an all time LOW with DaVinci. Docs are figuring out the ride Intuitive takes them on, and complaining on the lack of skill the reps have. If you have a hospital that wants a Robot, I know about 30 hospitals that will be glad to sell for a fraction of what they cost...

The robot makes a handsome coatrack. My local regional hospital bought one, but only has one uro doc using it. The long and the short of it is that it does have some clinical value, but using the da Vinci takes longer and is not reimbursed more than not using it. After the new robot smell wears off, docs are usually back to doing their previous non-robotic techniques. Turnover is pretty high. How many robots can you sell? Once the hospitals have them, the disposable use goes down over time. Neat technology, somewhat irrelevant in use. Hospital CEOs buy them so that they can put up the billboard.

You have no idea what u r talking about. Procedures r in no way close to an all time low!
