Hiring Practices

Wow about two months ago I passed a phone interview with Lilly. Cake. Told I would have a F2F with a hiring manager. Never got a F2F and I got an email the other day saying the position no longer exists. What a crappy way to do business. F Lilly!

That, my friend, is what we call the "Appalachian Handshake"!--JCL, ¥ourKing.

Had a similar experience, and have talked to others as well. Lilly seems to take a lot of action on non-existant jobs. You're not alone. Larry, Mo, and Curley are running HR.

Very common. Happens all the time. Love it or leave it.
btw - ANY phone screen should be cake. I've never done one that wasn't just a formality to make sure the applicant can speak the language. You're not anything special to pass a phone screen.

You are right. That wasn't a F2F. That was a F2B (Fist to b....). It's sort of a pre-screening technique developed here at Eli's.

This is not at all unusual and certainly not unique to Lilly.

I recently applied for a job with AstraZeneca. Interview with external recruiter, interview with hiring manager, one of two people to go to an interview with another manager - then nothing. I followed up with the recruiter and even the recruiter didn't reply.

Last year I applied for a job with Microsoft. They got back with the thanks-but-we've-restructured call four months after the interview.

And in January 2009 a company offered me a role which I had interviewed for in February 2006.

Not calling back, taking their sweet time, whatever - it's hardly unique to Lilly. It's normal.

Lilly used to be more courteous and professional in how they dealt with candidates but the recruiting department is now run by a group of incompetents with have no regard with how treat other human beings.

Gosh, why are all of these people dissin' you? And why can't you get (another) job? Do you change your underwear on a regular basis? Use deodorant each and every morning? Let's not get caught up in what's wrong with all of those people at each company, let's us look inward to find the answers.

Yes, the answers are within your navels. It's time to do more navel gazing. We have hired 5000 genetically identical yogis to assist with this task, and lo and behold, they do great IT too

Lilly used to be a great company! Now, it is a piece of crap.

Don't sweat it. Almost every pharma company used to be a great company to work for. Perks, job security, great salary, bennies, work independently. None of them are like that now. I was shown the door (along with a thousand others that day) after 35 years with another company (I am on THIS board because I have a lot of friends at Lilly). Got a phone call from my boss at 1 PM in the afternoon: "Your position has been eliminated. Stop working. Go home. Wait for a package tomorrow".
All of the companies have changed. And it's not going to get any better. Just be glad you aren't working for Pfizer or AZ!
