hiring pharma reps to launch the watchman?

I am considering a very big change from my current role in big pharma to this opportunity to launch the Watchman. Please hold any negative comments about big pharma, as I am completely aware of the reputation I have been branded with after 12 years in pharma. I am just as surprised they are even looking to hire pharma reps to launch the watchman, but I do know a great opportunity when I see one,and I am ready to make the move. Could anyone give me insight if selling the Watchman will be like a typical device job with long hours and lots of time on call? The recruiter told me it is more calling on doctors offices rather than being in procedures in the hospital. Are Boston Scientific reps able to take doctors out to dinners and such or is that not allowed in this side of the business? What is the typical pay someone is this role would make? Any honest, helpful thoughts appreciated.

As far as I've heard from a few watchman reps there is a lot of travel involved as implanting hospitals have been limited to only a handful for the first year. Should expect large growth in the following years. That is about all I know.

4 hour days, 350-550K, dinner as long as you keep em under 375 a person (you can also just give the Doc your AMEX and let him take his wife out). Don't sweat call, if your tied up just tell the customer you will be there tomorrow. Hope this helps!!

haha! Nice response! Much deserved! Old saying: the longer the excuse, the more likely it's a lie. Too many on these boards crafting an approach, with hidden agendas, looking to manipulate their audience. Ultimate goal is to get competitive information. Not buying the sincerity. If you are genuine OP...reach out in a non anonymous way. Ever here of Link-ed in? Sadly your professional profile quite likely includes your current position is some type of "Consultant" BS. A profile that is carefully crafted to hide what a whole lot of the BS "consultants" are trying to hide. Those that are ashamed of being a sell-out, should be.

0.0 chance you get the job. I'm seeing 12 more years of Big Pharma in your future.

Not so sure about that. I hear BS wants to replicate the success of watchman after their #1 pacemaker rep. The recruiter says he got his start in pharma. A guy in Dallas. Successful because of his pharma start, he now gets anything he wants from the company to help drive his sales. Sounds good to me.

c'mon guys face it let them (pharma) have the office jobs (market development). No one said they were implanting. Look we are in the lab all day or hospital and even then I don't get to the floors to "build awareness" let alone primary care etc.

What's wrong with hiring pharma for those positions?
They have been hiring nurses for sales jobs for decades.
I would take a nurse to cover case
But I would take pharma all day to actually leave the lab once in a while and sell

Haha yea in the lab and hospital all day standing there in your scrubs kissing the docs ass and contributing nothing.

I love how device reps think that they actually do surgery it's pretty funny .. You sit in the lab all day hoping the doc chooses you .. What a great skill set

That's funny. My area is a bit different, but I have heard there are hospitals that rotate cases between several companies. Like you said-reps sit around and are given cases. Where does this happen? So I can laugh.

I am different from the original poster but I just got off the phone with a recruiter. He was asking me names of cardiologists in my area. He wanted the names to give to hiring manager I've worked in device and pharma and most recently for 5 years with one company and there is no REAL selling in any field anymore. If you have a decent product and insurance covers the med or the device it will get used. It's that simple.
