I have an interview for hernia sale rep, Can any one shed some light on salary range, potential for layoffs, difficulty of job, main competition,and/or stress level for this role? If there is any other insight that would be great as well.

I would guess at least 70k for salary dont know about lay offs but that wouldnt worry me so much because most of there territories are pretty large. Stress will be high because that market is flooooooded with competition. Mesh is a tough sell always at least three people waiting to get your business the moment you leave the OR, hospitals are looking for ways to get mesh guys out. Its a rat race but its a job.

Few questions..
1. Which competitors are the toughest competition and why?
2. What is the biggest challenge selling this?
3. What are the key differentiating points that surgeons look at when making a decision on a hernia repair product?

Serious responses only...I really would like to hear honest feedback and thoughts

Seriously, if you desperately need the job take it. Okay way to break in to the OR. Otherwise, keep looking. The pork sheets are terrible. Training is overkill.

Covidien is similar to pharma except you go into the OR.

1. Bard, Ethicon, Walmart, Target, Walgreens, and every ma and pa shop that sells medical devices.

2. Standing in line with ten other reps peeking inside the other window to see which product the surgeon selects.

3. Looks, personality, etc. Nothing Clinical.

Except for tackers, Ethicons is killing it and absorbtack will soon be gone forever.

did you take the job as the hernia mesh rep? I have an interview with Atrium medical (my understanding is they are a very small player in the hernia mesh market) seems to be a lot on competition out there. who are the key players?

Davol, Covidien, Ethicon. Take your pick. Davol is an animal in the market. Atrium is an extremely small player in the market. Better off trying to get to one of ther other 3.

What about pricing comparison? Who has the best pricing? Does the lowest price when in this industry? Give me an example of a price comparison.
