Health Care Learning from Other Sectors

There are industries outside of the healthcare industry that has implemented the use of innovative management techniques, technological advances, and operational practices to further improve their organization both financially and culturally. As an example, Google employee receive many perks such as competitive benefits along with free break essentially free food along with free transportation, and much more. When it comes to customer satisfaction, and on time or fast delivery option, Amazon offers its customers the option of receiving their orders on the same day as an option. Moreover, Amazon is able to deliver its goods and services fast and on time for they utilize robotic equipment to assist them in getting their shipments organized, and their warehouses well stocked. Additionally, Amazon warehouses are located all over the USA which further decreases the time to deliver to their customers. On top of warehouses around the USA, Amazon has partnered up with other shipping companies allowing them to delivery their goods and services even on weekends. Both companies that I used as an example used their innovative management techniques and technological advances to not only value their employees, but also to value the time of their customers.

I believe both practices of valuing employee and valuing the time of customers essentially valuing the customer itself are both best practices that can be implemented to improve the workforce in the health care service, health sector, or other sectors in the health industry. For example, Google employees are valued by management by giving them perks not offered by other organization, so hospital or health care providers can also offer similar perks to their employees by their management to foster employee engagement. Employee engagement would allow employees to feel valued by their organization which would also make them work harder for the organization. Once employees work harder, the more customers are satisfied and serviced on time. That stated, it is like a domino effect where employees feel valued, their work for their customers becomes more efficient too saving time and effort on the part of their customers. If the healthcare industry follows the example of Amazon using robotic equipment to shorten their delivery time to the customers, patients, and customers of hospital and healthcare providers would also be satisfied due to short wait times for the appointments. This can be done by having hospital warehouses to use robotic equipment like Amazon to manage their supplies in their warehouse, and also their deliveries. If delivery times to each clinic were shortened, the more patients each clinic can service because their doctors and nurses receive their material requirements on time, so that they can serve their patients swiftly.

Conclusion

If the healthcare industry follows the example of Amazon and Google, their operational activities would not only improve, but their customer satisfaction would also improve. That stated, the healthcare system still has a lot to learn from external industries. Overall, I believe the healthcare industry is doing just fine, but there should always be room for improvement especially with a growing population which also translates to higher demand for healthcare.
