Has anyone seen the new workstation mock ups?

Are they the worst possible working conditions they could think of? Most people spend 1/2 their day on conf calls. Now we'll get to listen to 100 at a time instead of the 5-6 with the current cube setup. Sometimes it makes you wonder if management has a clue.

Just go to your nearest Ikea...that furniture is probably on par with what we will get. In terms of noise, you will be wearing headphones all day so what does it matter. Can't wait for the 15 min walk from parking lot to office on those cold, rainy days. Oh, and don't forget the long line of cars waiting to leave the site (one entrance/exit) only to dump you onto Whippany road with the 2000 other Novartis employees down the road. But hey, give it a chance.

I'm glad to hear that we'll be able to stand wearing headphones for 8-10 hours a day. Presumably these will be wireless headphones so that we're not tied to our desks???

Sad to say this must be an industry trend. Lilly went to these open work stations a few year back and pfizer put them in aoub 2 years ago. They are miserable no sugar coating. Real question, do you have an assigned desk? At pfizer we had to drag around a file cabinet to any open desk until they laid off enough people to open up space.

Get some good headphones and look for a work from home job. It'll take the brainiacs in the Corner offices about 10 years to discover productivity and quality go down in these open work environments. Then some expensive consultant needi g to sell some new office furniture will come and sell the old set up as the answer to poor morale increased productivity and higher quality work.

Flashback to that favored ole' saying from Bayer's proud past: work will set you free

the other one spoken on the generals first day back (after the allies let him out of prison...somehow he escaped the necktie party that others were invited to) and which has been its "real motto" ever since is....."Profit....Above All Else".

They just set the final units up in Wayne. They are very nice and have electric adjustable desks. Very modern design. What is nice, I understand everyone gets the exact same unit so there is no false status symbol. They have ordered 2500 of them for Whippany. Rumor has it we may be moving in by March since they have accelerated construction by putting on additional shifts.

no truer words have been written. you're right on target!

It's all about drinking the kook-Aid. They use use terms like "fostering collaboration" or "speaking with one voice". What does this have to do with working in a 4x4 fishbowl? Bayer is years behind the times. They will learn the inevitable, this will simply not work. Hope they leased the furniture from Ikea.

Wow, we will all get the same workplace. This is terrific, now no one will know the level of our coworker. We are all the same. Hope the institute and uniform program. Should be the Bayer Colors - blue Top and green bottom. I hear they will also have dry cleaning at the site. Maybe they can throw in free cleaning of the Bayer uniform. Also heard we will not need employee ID cards for access to building. Doors equipped with finger/hand print readers. Love it.

With the open work space concept they are able to cover all the floors with covert cameras in the ceiling. A security contractor friend said they have about 150 per floor in order to get compete coverage. hopefully they will be able to tell who stole your lunch!

Nope...only 50 are needed....the rest of the coverage comes from a couple of well placed UC operatives.

Open space is the new industry fad. Like so many other fads in the past, too numerous to mention, it will be tossed aside when some genius in the future figures out what we already knew years ago: it doesn't work.
