my ethicon rep infomed us of a recall on the harmonic hand pieces this week. Is this true and what is the company recommending? he is also scheduled to update the software on our new generators but the guy is clueless so we are going to delay that until we get more information. any additional information will be helpful.

It's FDA recall due to safety concerns. The Harmonic has been burning tissue at a much higher rate than previously reported. FDA issued a recall while investigation continues.

if you have the new generators the recall has ZERO impact on you. Sorry you have a bad rep that couldn't explain that to you.

The recall is specific to compatibility issues with the old generators. The was a component change via a supplier that caused specific lot numbers to not work with the old generators. If you own the newest Harmonic/Enseal generator there is no issue at all. Any claims around heat issues are incorrect, and are the irresponsible claims of an uniformed poster.
