GYN Sales Specialist

This is a very challenging role within ESC. Here are the issues in no particular order:

- Dated products with nothing in the pipeline.

- HUGE territory size. One GYN rep per division. Too large to manage. This would not be a problem if it had always been this way but Ethicon in all their wisdom cut most of the GYN sales force and created mega-territories. What does this mean for you... well your business is everywhere and is very difficult to maintain and grow all while defending competitive threat.

- Horrible management. The GYN role is the red headed stepchild of the company and most managers know dick about the products and the space. All they talk about is covering contracted stapler cases.

- Lack of contracts. You would think that Ethicon would fold in the GYN portfolio within the major Endo and suture contracts....

- Short sighted vision. First off I should correct myself that there is no vision within the company concerning GYN. But the writing is on the wall when we all have declining quotas, no products in R&D and every call is about new staplers being worked on for launch in 2017 and how we are going to be backorder free by 2020. Way to go team.

basically just like the other rep said.... RUN

When you can lose $200k in your territory and still hit "plan" you gotta be worried..JNJ won't keep a business that loses money

I am at a loss of how ridiculous this company is.

The blanket declining quota adjustment was another stellar move. There is a rep on my team that is at 98% to base of last year but at 320% to quota! This will not last.

It may all depend on the manager for the division. My manager came from the EES side of the business and knows shit about the GYN space. I have had multiple debates with him about how slings and y-mesh are not part of the the hernia mesh contracts. He came into a Thermachoice case (first and only) and said I want this to be your focus for the year. Little did he know I was way over plan with that product line. He even put together a co-divisional meeting and intended to leave the GYN's out because the focus was going to be hernia and staplers.

Overall the job is the best out of all three rep types. That is not saying much. Do your homework and you may find that this gig could work for you.

Please explain how the gyn role is even remotely the best??? It is by far the worst of the 3. Huge territories, horrible products, no innovation pipeline, bleeding money in every category. Would not be shocked to see jnj divest the gyn business completely.

They have Prineo don't they? Isn't that a good product that can be used in gyn?!

they do and yes it is! However, when the best product you have as a GYN specialist is a skin closure product, it doesn't look too good.

What dumb gyn would use prineo? Seriously, what procedure would that be warranted? No data to prove cosmesis and is 10 times the cost of other alternatives. Unless they r having an infection problem which almost all gyn's do not

This job is a joke, although a well paying joke considering we took a majority of the $100MM quota reduction. You literally can do dick and get paid descent while working on something else on the side. This isn't a place or the place to be, that being GYN, Ethicon Surgical right now, or in my personal experience a place that will grow you. I have been here for almost a decade won presidents club and multiple objective buster awards. The company's management probably like every other big company is half cool and half fuc*heads. IMO the company really doesn't care, but too this is my personal experience. They do some very unethical and immoral things at times and its a crock. It's a good paying job for now, but I cannot imagine they will be paying us to lose business next year, if we are even here. There are no products in the pipeline for GYN, and the new products we have now Stratafix, PRINEO, and Artisyn, we do not make squat on them, meaning going over plan. What kind of company is this? But sit back collect a pay check and work a few days per week. Thats my take

This place is the next Advanced Wound Care. The same things happened to that division and in the same order. When you 20 year old products, no money flowing into R&D you can bet your no working been here way too long ass that this dumper will be divested off and soon enough you will be working for a VC firm that will not tolerate the jnj lazy worker like yourself. Good day.
