GSK - start and "wave 2"

I realize the GSK contract has just started, but wondering how it is going so far. Does longevity sound promising? They claimed the half that were hired and cut will be put on the contract in January. Do those of you who started on the 1st see that happening. Does anyone associated with this contract see that happening?

Let's be realistic.. company , recruiter can say anything to make it sound good..we're working on new business! You'll get called! Well that's all nice but it don't pay my bills...Keep looking elsewhere, if you get 'the call' you may find yourself in the better position of saying No to them.

You are being pathetic. No one can predict what will happen and if they could they would not share it. You are begging for a job that guarantees you will be out of a job at anytime. My opinion

I'm not begging for anything, and any job guarantees that you could be out of a job at anytime. I have taken a job, albeit is a lesser paying job than the GSK project would have been. I am just curious to know how the project is going and if there is talk of a 2nd wave. If I "get the call", I may or may not take it, I don't know...it depends on many factors. As far as someone being "pathetic"....it's pretty pathetic for you to come here and post when you have nothing of value to add to the conversation. MANY people are out of work right now, and MANY people are being forced to take positions for which they are over qualified or under paid. It's a bad situation. Families are suffering. If it makes you feel big to call people in that situation "pathetic", well...THAT's pretty PATHETIC.

When people are employees it's funny how quick they forget what it feels like to be out of a job in this industry. It's a mistake to develop a false sense of security. If you have been in this industry long enough, you know the struggles of being laid off and struggling to get rehired. There are many qualified pharma reps out there right now and it is very difficult to land a job these days. Obviously some people have nothing better to do than come here and throw insults at people. Now that's pathetic!

Unless you like being in this position now or every few years it maybe time to realize the pharma ship has sailed and do something that pays less but is more stable?

I had this same thought a few years back, so I left pharma and went to work for a hospital selling home health. I was there 2 years and THEY downsized and cut the sales force in half (by tenure). So, after searching for something non-pharma for MONTHS, I went to a smaller company selling oxygen and other healthcare supplies. I thought they were extremely stable as they had been in business for 25 years. I was there for a year and a half and they dissolved!

In this economy, nothing is stable. With a background of 20+ years in sales (medical sales, none the less), there aren't a lot of places to go. I mean, we're not qualified or educated as dental hygienists or IT specialists. Unless we want to do retail or another field that would cut our salaries down to 1/3 or less, we don't have a lot of choices. Right now, we're lucky to be able to get hired on to a new project or company every few years. This is why I have found contract sales to be the best way to go. If you do a good job, they will likely give you the opportunity to interview for the next project when yours ends. At least, that has been my experience.
