Gross pay NOT half of salary!!!

Unbelievable how we continue to get screwed. ADP statements are up and your gross pay is NOT, let me repeat, NOT half of your pay. What next, besides massive layoffs?

It shouldn't be half your monthly pay. There are 26 paychecks a year when checks come every two weeks (52/2=26). You are not doubling your pay periods to twice a month. June and november each have three paychecks this year.

Calm down Sherlock
If you read any of the info, there are several months, where ther will be 3 paychecks in a month instead of 2 . Yes it seems like you are getting screwed but it will all even out

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of stupid people this company employs. How many months have they been reminding us about the new payroll status? You think you deserve a job with that much stupidity? Good riddance.

It may even out, but Novartis is holding onto some of YOUR money until you reach that month where there are 3 paychecks. It is like the government holding onto your money and not giving it back until you file your tax returns and get a refund (if you don't have your withholding correctly adjusted).

It is not to our benefit to go to bi-weekly pay. It does, however, benefit Novartis in the fact that they pay us less per month except for those 2 times a year when we get 3 paychecks in a month instead of just 2.

With all the financial problems Novartis has, they saw a way for us to finance it for them.

Agreed..They are scum! Nobody will be here in June and Nov..They are holding on to our money and won't get it back...Even if you get severance, you will only get June.

This has been in the works..... We don't get our full pay till June when we get three check in the month. The same month that we will get paid till we are let go. Think of all the Millions of dollars that Novartis saves by not paying us the full amount. Assholes......

I hope your new job does not let you work the cash register. By law you will get paid for everyday you work. or in your cases, everyday you are employed. unfnbeleivable.

So the OP was afraid that a Billion (are we still a Billion? :)) dollar company devised a plan to cheat its employees by going to a new payroll system? No wonder I've received over a dozen emails and ILearns about the new in two plan. Yikes!

I think it's funny that you all think the OP is a moron. They might not realize what they are trying to say but being paid every two weeks when the company is laying people off the first week in April is in fact screwing anyone who gets laid off. If you are laid off in April the "warn act" goes into effect. Therefore you will receive your normal pay for the next 60 days ( April and May or 4 pay checks) At that point you will receive a severance which is always based on weeks and has NOTHING to do with how the pay periods are or are not set up.

Now lets look at an example:
*to keep the math simple we won't be taking out taxes/car/ins etc etc etc*
Uncle Nova Makes $60,000 a year
Based on monthly pay period: $5,000 Based on biweekly pay period: $2307.69
January - May 2012 Pay = $25,000 January - May 2012 Pay = $23,076.92

Now lets say Uncle Nova gets laid off in April and gets 20 weeks severance:

Weekly Pay: $1153.85 X 20 weeks = $23076.92 (this number does NOT change so the poster who said that you will get it paid in your severance no genius you won't..keep that IV in you're going to need it)

Laid off Uncle Nova's 2012 compensation:
*What he made between January - May + 20 weeks severance*

Based on Monthly: $48076.92
Based on Biweekly: $46153.85

Obviously if Uncle Nova is one the poor souls left after the re-org he will get the additional pay in June and November....but the other 60% will absolutely make less than they did last year... Tricky Tricky lil Swiss

So how many of you bitching about getting paid bi-weekly are going to refuse a job offer from a company that pays you bi-weekly? Why would you accept an offer from a company that clearly wants to "screw" you? Why even interview with them???

Most pharma companies pay bi weekly. Novartis is one of the last to change over. I don't like it either, but at least I have/had a job. Yes, financially it benefits Novartis to pay you bi weekly. You wouldn't do it if you owned the company?

They probably went to bi-weekly because in many states where you get paid by the hour and pay overtime you can not pay an employee monthly. The employees who currently get paid hourly already get paid weekly. Just setting up for the losses from the overtime law suit.

The OP has got to be among the dumbest posters of all time. If you are cut, you get paid for the days you worked regardless of the pay schedule.

Is that really so hard to understand?

Almost all companies pay every two weeks for salaried jobs.
