Great Idea Merck!

Here's an idea: Let's combine Januvia, a 4-year-old diabetes med, with Zocor, an ancient statin, and call it something new! As if Vytorin wasn't embarrassing enough. This company has become a complete joke.

Welcome to the New Merck.

It's a VALUE ADDED product troll - go back to your space under the bridge at BMS.

Like Novartis didn't start it with combining amlodipine to lotensin and now we have the "Valturna/Tekturna" family...then Benicar does it, now Micardis doing the same thing...it took us a while.

When all you have is a hammer ... . The real question is who the hell is paying a premium for this "value-adding" product and paying for how long?

I guess merck doesn't teach pharmacology anymore. they should really stop hiring reps at the mall. the combo products listed above are for the treatment of htn. here's how a doc views a combo. more drugs= more ae's. so now he can worry about the pancreas and the liver. of course he really should add metformin to the januvia. so why not a "tre-combo"? merck is just trying to re-capture the "old" glory of zocor. that ship has sailed.

Look, Merck can't even get a copycat version of Abbot's Niaspan approved. Ironically, Abbott has captured the first simvastatin version of that therapy as well. Merck is 100% me-too these days. And not very good at it - at that. Wait til they meet the real pros of me-too in India. Those that Merck cannot buy off will eat Merck's lunch.

Maybe if Merck showed some interest in healthcare & science it would change.
