goodbye consumer

Merck’s over-the-counter drug business, which includes brands such as Coppertone sunblock and Claritin allergy relief medicine, is attractive to Novartis, the people said. It is not clear whether Merck would be open to such an exchange, the people said.

Novartis swaps their AH for Merck's CH.

Novartis ends up a major player in CH, probably #2 worldwide.

Merck ends up #1 in AH.

Wall street banks broker the deal, and make a bunch.

Ken and the gang get some $$ in the kick-backs from the banks.

Lots of people lose their jobs at the lower levels.

So evrybody (who is already rich) wins!

Can we get these "Consumer Division" threads move or deleted. Its a pimple on Merck's behind, a part too small to even talk about.

Hopefully the leaders of Merck don't give a minutes thought each year to this irrelevant, inhereted little boutique side business.

We've got lives to save, not time for someone's bunions. Enough already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No lifesaving medicines being made that's why we're in this shithole of a mess now!!! You should be thankful that we have Consumer Care, and Animal Health!! Even though they may be a small part of Merck they seem to have their shit together.

This is wayyyyyy unlikely to happen. The anti-trust hurdles will likely be insurmountable. But, hey, Merck did lawyer its way through a reverse merger to keep that Remicade revenue it had to negotiate and give back a few years later so I guess if Ken can get the idea off the ground he just needs to exit before it ultimately fails.

Anti-trust? Give me a break.

If Ammaco and Exxon could merge on something as important as energy supply, the government isn't going to give a care about having 1 less sun tan oil company around.

Another clueless Merckie. The antitrust would be on the AH side. How soon you forget how we had to divest our AH assets to get the SGP ones for antitrust issues. If we hadn't divested Merial we would have downed the merger.

And SWAP lines of business with a competitor? There are some very creative minds at work there. Not productive but creative.
