Goodbye Cafe Pharma Board

Goodbye Cafe Pharma Merck board. Or at least goodbye to my bookmark on my browser. I have read these posts for the past several years and when you cut through the various forms of noise, the message (although sad) is so very accurate and telling. Misery loves company and that is why I would visit here so often. I've be gone for a few months now - layoff (duh), but as many who escape report am so much happier. There is so much life waiting outside. Move cautiously but with courage and faith. I'm making a bit less that I did at Merck - maybe 10-15% when everything is said and done. But I was very well paid and I consider myself reasonably paid now. I lost almost no time between gigs - actually would have preferred more time off if I had known. Don't know if I'll stay where I am for the long term but if not I'll move onto something as interesting. Having freed myself from the perceived handcuffs, there is immense freedom. Easily worth the financial aspects. I will no doubt be back to check in w/ you and other pharma co's boards at some point. But not soon. Book mark delete coming as soon as I hit "Submit".

Good luck to you all.

Whether or not you read this, good luck and enjoy life away from this toxic ship.

When you decide to come back and check in, your perspective will be fresh and different. Perhaps you can share some wisdom with others then. Best wishes to you nevertheless.

I retired after 30 years in sales and am living frugally and comfortably. I visit CP often to find out if my formerly beloved Merck has changed its destructive course or not. I don't want to offend anyone still standing in the toxic slime. Reading some of the horrible stories here reinforce my decision to retire. It was difficult with decent pay and tenure plus fondness for the once great Merck.

Above post who is high paid band. 14 years there delivers a good pension, good serverance. The years in and band make it so. For many older years in can now be insufficient. Band too high (too low paid) to leave now.Faith? Being able to stay until the normal retirement age of 65/66 and maybe by then improve the band.

So true. Know more than a few "older" reps who will be get very little on pension and severance if they're cut. All because they're relatively new.
