Hmmmm, I'm not an MBA but I did take a basic business class or two at my little community college, so I'm going to say BECAUSE IT MAKES GOOD BUSINESS SENSE. Face it the GYN op co is dead, the only real product they have is interceed and Biologics can sell that. Suture has 95% market share, so how can it grow? and the Hernia market is extremely fragmented by all the one off competitors. There is plenty of money to be made in Bariatrics (sans Band) and Energy, so you build where the growth is.

the areas of growth within the group are with energy and bariatrics so it makes sense to add resources to this segment of business.

you sound like a 5th grade little boy that got picked last in kickball. stop crying and get your resume out there because you should be prepared for the worst.

really does not matter because the big money days are long gone . Guys like me who have been here from the beginning we are really only working for the pension and free health care 25 and 55 the magic number . So have a good time, embrace the change , appreciate you work for a great company and stop worrying about what you cant control .

I hate to sound so stupid, but I don't understand what you mean by full retirement. I thought anyone who retired at 55 retired with reduced pensions benefits, only full benefits at age 62.

Ethicon Products has numerous jobs posted online and I have an interview with them. If they are planning on laying people off why are they hiring from outside? Everything I have read is talking about "big changes" -is this legit or people being paranoid? I would rather not accept an offer if layoffs are around the corner.

I would go on the interview and ask the question. If they don't want to answer it or if they don't hire you for asking, then you don't want to work there anyway. JNJ is a good company, and they don't hire with the intention firing them in 6 months. If you are offered a poition, then they are expecting you to have a long career with JNJ. However, things happen and the company has to remain stable for those that remain.

Good points..now cue the bitter assholes who will tell you how nieve and foolish you are

Sorry bub but this is jnj and they have hired people and then let them go during training and another time after training. The womens health pharma group hired a bunch of people and then let them go after training. Ethicon hired reps and let them go during training. The latter happened last year. JNJ is all about making it look like things are normal and everything is good. Yes it is expensive and wasteful not to mention cruel to hire people knowing they will have a layoff but jnj does not care about the money and its all about the investors and doing what is best for the bottom line and the stock price. This is a fact.

Sorry folks but you cant make this stuff up and please dont tell me they decided at the last minute to have a layoff. Bullshit. They know well in advance what they are doing and keep most people in the dark. Some credo huh....

And I'm sure those people got a fair severance package. Many companies do not offer severance other then the $1600 a week for 99 weeks you can apply for from Uncle Obama. If JNJ lets you go, then they do everything they can to rehire you within another JNJ company. If this was not the case with you, then you probably sucked as an employee. GO on the interview!!! Changing positions is always a gamble, and only you can decide if the risk/reward ratio is right for you and your family.

Really????? do you work for JNJ? We had a rep who gave up a good job to get into device sales, went through training, sold her personal car, relocated to another state and WAS LAID OFF TWO WEEKS INTO HER TERRITORY. So what if she got 2 weeks or 6 weeks of severance? How can our long term planning be so poor that we waste the money to hire and train someone PLUS totally screw up someone's life like that?

J&J does NOT do everything they can to place you with another division? Are you a new rep, or just naive? They told the EWHU reps that lost their jobs in September that they would try to place them in another division....NO ONE helped one rep. Wake up! Layoffs WILL happen. They are hiring reps now, but there is no guarantee that that territory does not get dissolved into someone else's territory in June....

Thanks asshole. I didnt get let go, I know people who this happened to. They say they will help and they do offer services but you missed the point. The point is why hire people when they know they will cut them later? Its all about image and what the investors think. Now get back to counting suture boxes lady.

No, not suture. I SELL Energy against an entrenched competitor and I do quite well. Several years back I was part of a large layoff at another JNJ company and was HELPED by the HR department to find another position W/I JNJ. I can only go on my FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE, but JNJ treats people fairly and if you are a GOOD salesman, they try to retain you.
