GI Division

Can you be more specific on the comp plan? I did hear they were bringing in a lot of entry level people to be clinical support/associate reps. I know the full reps in my area are extremely experienced.

$150k at plan, $50k base, you have to be at 80% YTD to start earning, it’s capped even though they say it isn’t, if you kill it you’ll make $180k. More than likely, you’ll earn $135k.

Money is just one issue. RFA is a great product, but we are charging a shitload for a generator and we have competition. PillCam is great, but it’s $100-$150 more than the competition. Beacon is a great product line.

There is zero innovation in GI and the leadership, specifically Gio, has no clue how to run this business. He is a little bitch. Jil, an AVP is trash. The VP, Brian, can’t even address the sales force. It’s a shit show.

All true. The comp for this year is a joke. IAMs get screwed while DAMs who don’t do anything get paid the same. Literally a monkey could do the job of a DAM. They are the worst. 20% growth for IAMs and a new tech bucket means you could make $100k all in or $210k if you have the best sales year of your career.

I am currently interviewing for an associate sales role for the GI division.
I’m new to industry (~ 2 years Reproductive & lab sales) and really interested in joining Medtronic.
Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions for me? Serious responses preferred as this is new territory for me.

Thank you.

Associate Rep position for someone with your background is a good move for you, but a bad move for Medtronic. You’ll train on all GI products and cover a large area, but you’ll have the chance to live into a TM position if someone leaves as long as you can relocate within the Division (West, SE, NE).

Interview process typically involves a phone screen, face-to-face, calls with reps on your team, a field ride, and a call with the AVP. Can be fast or short depending on the manager.

Does anyone have any information on the GI Capital division? I've been told $50K base, $175K at plan, but is this negotiable? Are quotas attainable? Is the leadership good and are they people that you want to line up behind?

Thanks for any answers you are able to provide.

Are you asking about the Capital a sales Manager position selling capital, or are you asking about the Capital region and working there as an interventional or diagnostic account manager?

Yes, Capital Sales Manager selling capital. Thanks

The comp that they quoted is accurate. Every single capital rep in the country has the exact same quota number. If you’re in California where the reimbursement is double that of Alabama, and you have 3x as many hospitals, do you think that is fair? You don’t get paid a percentage of what you sell, and you don’t get paid on service, catheters, disposables, software, etc.

It’s a shit job with a shit division of Medtronic. You’re more likely to make $140k. That being said, you basically just wait for leads from the AMs and then put a quote together. A toddler could do it.

you must have a really shitty capital rep. The rep in my region is excellent. Yes, I work to develop some leads for him, but he does a lot of market dev on his own. Anyone with any talent and some effort should hit plan, get close to 200k. Lots of time driving the capital process, coaching clinical champions, etc. it's not easy, some travel, have to deal with capital funding, best in class products... I know I'm a biased insider, but I've been here a while and should have another good yr.
