Get rid of the overlays already!

Especially the ones that DON'T WANNA BE HERE and are liberal whiners that just collect a paycheck.

All one has to do is sit down and speak with each rep and you know after 15 minutes who takes the job seriously.

If you do the minimum, pack your bags, you're next to go.

Takes the job seriously??? How could anyone with any brains or dignity take this joke
of a job seriously??

Bringing office staff lunch and being a walking billboard is serious work???

Puhleeze....

Why are you picking on the overlays? What makes you any better? Generalizing makes you nothing but a moron.

I've noticed that the overlays are generally the lower-paid reps that are held onto to replace the expensive reps as the expensive reps are being forced out of the company. I've seen it happen three times in the last two years...and those are just the ones that I've been privy to.

It's all part of Merck's ongoing plan to eliminate payroll expenses. If the Kool-Aid drinkers would put down their glass, even they may be bright enough to see what's happening here. I doubt it, though; ignorance is bliss, I guess.

I disagree with the idea of getting rid of the overlays, here's why: overlays cover more geography than their base counterparts and call on the higher volume prescibers. I think the overlays will be the only safe ones when the next layoffs are announced becuase for many of our crap products the only way to be very effective will be to have a schlep rep rolling around to only the top volume writers in a large territory, which is what the overlays are already doing and have the relationships with those docs.

They can get rid of anyone (including overlays), and turn reps that remain into overlays if that's what they want to do...everyone is seeing the high volume docs (not just the overlays)...so it's not a matter of who has the relationships.

It's "a matter of" only two things:

1. Whether you've kissed enough ass and drank enough Kool-Aid.

2. How big you salary is.

Get rid of the overlays???? Heck, then who are they going to replace your overpaid ass with when they push you out? The overlays are low-paid schleps that the company intends to retain.

Drop the stupid Kool aid nonsense. The term is overused and sounds like a ninth grader.
Overlay means overrides,,,,and they will override your job in a matter of short time. As far as salary...watch how many high paid weasels start manipulating the system. Bet a few we all know will knock people to the layoff line who really should be staying. All to feed the greed. Equaity in the process??? Watch and see.

I think the Kool Aid reference is well-utilized here. We all know exactly what it means.

As for the well-paid crowd, unless they have really kissed ass, anyone under 50 is at risk.

Good luck winning an age discrimination suit in these days of layoffs. If you are drawing more pay than others in your organization you are at risk, plain and simple. You can drop hints that you are not unaware of age discrimination protection but the best net value to you is to take the package when it is offered and hope for bridging of medical care until you reach retirement age. Remember this is the company that is settling everything the hard way in arbitration and courts. Vioxx and J&J. Those battles were fought with deep pockets.

"take the package when it is offered and hope for bridging of medical care until you reach retirement age."..........What does this mean?????

This is correct; winning an age discrimination lawsuit today is very difficult. Mother knows this.
