They might rethink open carry the first time a policeman shoots one of them dead for carrying in the wrong place at the wrong time.

This is a bit excessive, but the fringe benefits of everyone packing DOES make a difference. Since I moved here, I have become even more firm in my belief, that "an armed society, is a polite society.

In the Old West, open carry was the norm. Concealed carry was illegal and would get you thrown in jail.

How do I determine that the person walking down the street with a clearly displayed gun is safe? You can't. It's a total guess.

Don't like cops overstepping their boundaries? Forget the questioning and going through your residence, apparently this gives police the right to shoot anyone just because 'they look dangerous'. Like (for example) this 93 year old woman.

To me, it doesn't matter who's behind it, anyone can pull a trigger, and a bullet can go anywhere. It's tragic, and sad. My sympathy goes out to her and her family, but if I was in that situation, I'm sorry, but ANYONE pointing a gun at me while I have a gun too . . . I'm shooting first.

So if everyone is walking around with a gun, there are no unarmed shootings and if there aren't any witnesses, all anyone (including police) has to do is say, "That person pointed their gun at me." So essentially, if you're packing, anyone else who is packing can shoot you and claim you pointed your gun at them. And if you're dead you can't argue it.

This will be especially helpful in Florida where they have 'stand your ground'. Killing unarmed people costs a lot in attorney fees and time to beat the rap but if someone is packing, ka-boom! "Hey, see that gun? He pointed it at me and I was in fear of losing my life." Sounds like an easy way to get rid of people who piss you off.
