Get a Digital Recording Device and Use It

Rumor has it that reps have taken to recording their managers and using that against the company as they're being pressured to resign. It's a true safeguard against being forced out for not going along with any unethical behavior that your manager asks of you. It also helps you get Unemployment in the event you get fired. They still award it to reps who get fired under harsh work conditions.

Let's break out those recorders, Kids! School is in session and Mutha needs to learn a lesson.

Hindsight is 20/20. Illegal or not, I wish I had thought to record; there would have been some really damning evidence which I would have shared all over the place! I had a regional manager (who wasn't fond of me) come in for a ride along, and lo & behold, she fills out her little report on me and it's literally filled with lies. One of them was so over the top that it was actually comical! This b'''h wanted to PIP me, and did it, but at least I could have tarnished her reputation with a recording device. Her lies, especially the most ridiculous one, would have stood out like a sore thumb for anyone looking at what she wrote vs what the actual conversation was, in my car. I say to anyone who feels uneasy, record away! Even if you aren't going to get legal action out of it, you can at least tear down the liar in the eyes of others.
It's like the "white horse" thing. Once those words leave your lips, the image pops into other people's heads and you can't unring the bell.

Just fyi-- I was fired after PIPd (with a territory that was only one of two in the whole district that met goal), for totally subjective bs. Highly tenured, highly paid, target on my back I guess. I got severance AND unemployment, no questions asked.

What are you doing now? How long did it take from the time you got the PIP to the time you were fired? Did they give you any options? What were you supposed to work on?
Is there any way to get off of a PIP without being fired?

Recording confidential conversations without the express knowledge and agreement of all parties is illegal in several states. Check the law in your area.

Actually, as long as one party knows the recording is going on, it IS legal. If managers are doing what they are supposed to, then they should not have anything to worry about. By the way, I know of 2 reps in my region who are currently doing this for all of the reasons listed. Management cannot continue the witch hunt.

That was my post. You know what's funny? Karma is an interesting thing. The person who PIPd me ended up losing her job/laid off. Ha.

I am currently job-hunting, so hopefully something will turn up before I run out of money someday! lol It was about 2 1/2 months on PIP. No options.
Nobody discussed me leaving on my own or anything like that. I was told if I did all the things "they wanted me to do" then I could, potentially, make it thru the PIP. Said if I really wanted it, then it was "possible". Really? I don't know about that, but I hated my job, so it didn't matter to me.
What they "wanted" was to micro-manage the hell out of me; make me do a lot of extra reports, CONSTANT ride alongs, monitoring absolutely everything, etc etc. I honestly can't even say there was one particular thing that I was supposedly supposed to be working on.
They just wanted me gone, and I suppose they figured I would quit because of all the harassment.
Like I said, I got severance and then started unemployment (which I think could last up to a year and 1/2 or close to 2 years, if I need it. Hopefully won't!)
Are you on PIP?

Actually,

I think that it is sound advice to check the law in your respective states. California law is quite clear about the conditions, for example. If Merck believes that you did something illegal in the course of your work, it provides a means for Merck to nullify any separation benefits that you might otherwise get. Getting even with your management might prove unnecessarily costly. No recording is going to help you keep your job and únless Merck has been way over the top in its corporate behavior, it will not get you additional severance benefits. If your number is up, take the money and run. Do not agree to statements that would justify your dismissal for cause in PIPs. Merck has the money for severance and is only looking for fools that will try to bet that they can get more.

No I was threatened with one and then I quit- He was already doing the constant ride alongs and nit-picking everything I said and did- It was ridiculous- I was just wondering what the timeline looked like if you actually got on one-
I left and went to work part time in our family business- Which has been a good thing-
Sanity is more important- I actually enjoy what I do now- The people I work with are human-no ass kissing and back stabbing!
I am going to sit back and laugh when he tries to find a high paying job to support his 4 kids with his BUSINESS degree!!! Plus a stay at home wife!!!! Ha Ha Ha!!!
