For all recent hires at Amgen...

Hi All,

I applied for a Sr position in the Quality field. I received a call from the Director of Quality (who is the hiring manager) within 2 weeks about my resume and was impressed. He moved me forward for a HR phone screen that took place the next day. Following that, which also went well, I was contacted by the Coordinator the following week who emailed me with a tentative date and time for a F2F. I accepted that date and the next day I was emailed an interview welcome packet, that included the interview agenda as well as an employment application that needed to be filled out prior to the interview. Also, their were some resources included about background checks, and the email mentioned should i be considered then i will receive a separate email from HireRight authorizing them to conduct the background check on their behalf.
My interview is now less than a week away and I guess my question is really what the Background check is like and what was checked and of course how long it took from the check to an offer, this question is intended for those who were recently hired here at Amgen. (You don't have to be currently working though here at Amgen...) I just need to know because of other potential offers I have lined up. Thanks!

Background check includes employment history, salary (they want W-2's), criminal background and education. It will take you about 3 to 4 hours to complete form with HireRight. Takes about 7 to 10 days from start to finish.

Drug Screening post offer is a urine test within 3 days of offer letter, results in 3 days.

My references were thoroughly checked by hiring manager; choose wisely (tell reference what you told Amgen).

Time from last interview to offer depends on the hiring manager and sense of urgency.

A word of caution, Amgen salary is not competitive, significant emphasis put on "long term incentives". If you get laid off, they do not honor the incentives, including any unpaid sign-on bonuses.

Medical Insurance (Aetna) comes with significant out of pocket expenses and high deductible. Time of is 3 weeks plus 2 week 4th JUL and Christmas Shutdown.

Discount on ESPP is only 5%.

Insider perspective:
Consider wisely, if you move to TO and get RIFF'd, there are limited opportunities locally.

Amgen does not show significant respect to its employees. Check with those moved to So San Francisco for oncology a year ago and were just laid off.

Knowing what I know today and having survived Amgen Full Potential, I would not have accepted employment here.

Good luck

Thanks once again for all the help and info...
My last question was did you just have one F2F or were their many, like I said I have another potential offer and don't want to drag that out if Amgen is also dragging itself.
However, I do know after some digging around that in a way I am "fortunate" this is still at the interview stage so I have time to think over if their is an offer. I've read a lot of helpful info here, good and bad, about many of these Big-Pharma's. Thanks, much appreciated.
