Re: FEMALE Reps! Please tell us where you shop for work clothes/suits...

thrift stores. classics are classics and vintage is always in vogue. besides my company doesn't pay me enough to look like a covergirl.

What brands/designers do you think work well for good work suits/clothes? I like Elie Tahari and Theory myself. But what do you do about shoes? I love Jimmy Choo and Manaolo's, but can't work in high heels all day...they kill my feet. I'm very picky about my work clothes and want something different I guess. I do find stuff on eluxury sometimes. Any info/ideas would be welcomed. Thank you.

Resale shops. Have never paid more than $20 for blazers, slacks, skirts that all are the name brands listed above

Choo's and Manaolo's for this job??? PLEASE!! Who are you trying to impress?? First of all, getting in and out of the car all day and pounding the pavement would be hell on them, and secondly, unless you're married to one of the docs, our salary does NOT afford this. Come back to the real world - I get Tahari suits and lots of designer suits at the discount stores~

Shop the end of season sale racks at the better department stores. After you have a base wardrobe of mix and match stuff, you can buy more expensive pieces to add each season. I try to buy one or two really well made jackets each season. Which stores are best depends on where you live. Nordstroms is king in the northwest, but a joke in the midwest. The Robinson May line of stores are usually OK, but some of them may be too old for your taste. With your initial wardrobe, buy classic pieces instead of statement or trendy items. Those can be added later, but the classics last for many years.

Oh, ABSOLUTELY hit the sales! Why pay full price when you don't have to?

I have a pretty nice wardrobe (for work, fun, dress, and casual), and I don't think I paid retail price for anything in my closet. As far as work stuff goes, I have lots of Ellen Tracy, Dana Buchman, Armani. etc. and most of it was bought for a song. I just found a $500.00 dress on the Neiman's website for $80.00. Not too bad.

We also have a Saks outlet near us, and I have found some incredible deals there. I have a closet full of Ferragamo shoes, some of which I have found for $35.00 a pair (not bad, considering they were over $300.00 to begin with).

Garfield Marx suits from Nordstroms, (especially when they're on sale) are high quality, timeless pieces that are well worth the investment. For shoes, DSW has an awesome selection of great shoes at great prices.

My only requirement for shoes is that they are leather. Other than that, I see no reason to pay a higher price. There are plenty of great options at great prices.
