Vertex had the chance, back in the day, to buy the Ft Washington building (the Boger building) for a song. Nope. Might as well pay a zillion dollar lease rather than buy it for pennies. Ol' AV rode herd on a bunch of ropeadope moves and still managed to fall upward until one day, a long time later, and only after eating at the VP trough to the tune of millions in additional stock, he was mysteriously shown the door.
