Failure of leadership

The situation at kowa is a direct and prime example of failure of management across all levels. The people in charge that put the company in this situation are to blame. Treating reps like they are numbers will get you no where in the sales world. Good luck trying to get a new job management when you are the reason for failure.

Been in pharmaceuticals for a long time, this is the worst management group I have ever seen. They have no idea of what they are doing. They managed to destroy a once great cultured company in less then 3 years.

what have you all done to create a better situation? The problem at Kowa is better answered by an old saying. You get what you pay for. Kowa pays low, so they get low caliber sales reps.that don’t sell well and don’t work hard. I don’t blame the upper leadership, it’s the quality of reps.

Okay troll. Go back to big pharma where all you do is drop off samples and have no selling skills.

So the reps made all the bad decisions for the last three years that put Kowa in the position its now in? Get your head out of your butt and wake up.

Success in Kowa's sales force required having talent up and down in the organization. A weak sales person will weaken a sales territory. A bad district manager will damage their team and lower the regional results. But poor top down leadership will eventually ruin the entire company. This is directly related to poor decision making, direction, and execution which damages the very core of the organization, it's culture. This is why Kowa is in the position it is in.

Whose decision is it to offer low base salaries to low caliber sales reps???
THE LEADERSHIP TEAM. It all goes back to them, yes you get what you pay for, but instead of investing in their sales force and hiring more experienced reps they chose to hire reps right out of college and pay them peanuts and expect high caliber results!!! So again the leadership is trash. The training isn’t that great either, i can barely understand what michael is saying behind that hockey tonk accent of his.

Good point! I don’t know why they let go of Jim Underwood and Brad Hardey. Both good sales trainers and leaders.

Well stated!

One was a drunk, and the other a liar and incompetent.

Hardy was “fall down” drunk at a meeting in Pittsburgh. He fell on a broken bottle and messed his face up. Shortly after, he was history. I liked him, but he lacked self control. Underwood paid his friend to give us the LEAD model. He was also promoting people on the CSR track, when they did nothing. He too, was shown the door. Unfortunately, we end up with these buffoons.

I agree. Both of them were great. Brad was a great leader and motivator unlike some of the other upper management like Sam.
And if I bought Bitcoin when it was less than a dollar I’d be on a permanent vacation. How long are you guys going to live in the past and yearn for a world that does not exist anymore. Move on from your longing of the past and consider moving on in general if you have not already.

Moving on is what everyone should be doing. Leadership at that company is the cancer that killed it. Yes they always paid low. They blamed the Japanese. The same Japanese that are paying what is left of the sales team to sit home and do nothing. I have been in pharma 30 plus years and have never seen ANY company do that. Jeff is the perfect example of the Peter Principal. He reached beyond his abilities two jobs ago and now tries to hide his ineptitude by hiring a tennis pro and regional managers who won't question anything. All of senior leadership is hand chosen by Jeff. Not 100 IQ points in total among the lot. Ben is nothing more than a figure head to Japan. Reckoning has not come quickly enough if you ask me. As far as Brad Hardy goes, he hired me into leadership there and I have a soft spot for him. He had his demons, but Jeff stepped on him at the first opportunity. Brad has a leadership position at Symphony these days. Jeff will NEVER see another decent role in this industry
