Ex Schering reps totally hosed in S-1,2 3 ratings

Wow did the Schering folks take it up the rear on the new levels! No Schering rep came over as a Senior Exec no matter what their rating was at Schering, how many awards, or how long they had been with the company. Many with several years and much success that had recently been promoted to a specialty positio in Schering came over as seniors. ( Schering made reps start the levels over after a promotion) So some Merck primary care rep selling vytorin that was a senior exec gets to be a senior exec in specialty while the Schering rep with years of sepcialty experinece is a senior and now a S-1.
I know of one rep that quit during the review when told they were an S-1. Morale in oncology at all time low.
TOTAL HOSE JOB FOR FORMER SCHERING REPS.

Hopefully S 1 means we will be out of here SOONER, preferably by October at latest since they will need to provide another year of severance credit if carried over any later than that in order to abide by WARN ACT 60 day notice---I am still waiting as I was one of the original hand raisers turned down at initial merger

Merck rep here... agree that SP reps were screwed. If it makes you feel better, we had a rep interview for s3, because they aced the pillars, yet this person was on a PIP the year before. How does that make sense? SP reps I have met are top notch. My advice, go find a company who knows your worth and appreciates it. Merck does not.

Ex Schering reps have brought nothing to the table except for drama and two faced rhetoric. They are destroying my district as I speak. Get a life and be happy your S1 and not demoted to contract Rep....

Poster #4 Whats the problem? Did the SP Rep in your district expect you to work a full day or close for business instead of "bringing value" to the Physicians practice? Get off your high horse. Everyone knows SP Reps were screwed during this process and while it's not okay many of us expected it. We just bent over and put a smile on our face. In this economy the company knows no one is going to fight the establishment. However meetings coming up should be interesting.

You SP reps must have had a money easy street....was never that way at Merck. Look at the time we're waiting for increases that never come. We were never paid like you so stop the complaining. This is the real world.

The "bringing value" is such a hoot! Like any doc really cares to receive what Merck is so eager to offer via "Solutions Consultants"...so misguided. This company just gets in the way of the rep and cuts off its own nose. "Competencies" killed what incentive was left after the endless teleconferences, meetings, bulletins, product exams, policy obsession, ridiculously involved expense reports. Sad to see pharma like this.

Changed managers and I went from top rep with good merit to under performing with no promotion and 1.8% raise. No real explanation and positive feedback all year long but I guess that the CTLs friends needed the money more.

You were most likely a Schering rep. Merck's explanation: Our standards are higher. Well, they can shove that where the sun don't shine:)

Schering reps not the only reps screwed. Tenured Merck reps are getting the same treatment. My understanding is merit increase is roughly 2%. Seriously? How much money did this company make last year. How much bonus and incentives are being pulled down at the exec level. Not only do we get this joke of a raise (it doesn't even cover cost of living); but bonus potentials have gone down. They preached that they are going to reward high performers - Sr. Execs losing like 6K in bonus. Seniors losing 2K. How is that enhancing the bonus potential? Don't give me the people multiplier either. I also don't want to hear about how lucky we are to have a job. There are people that bust their butts in their roles - could you imagine if we were rewarded like a real sales job and we earned 10-20% of our sales even split between counterparts it's a heck of a lot more than we are earning now.

So, who is going to reflect all these sentiments on the next "survey"?

Seriously, this company needs a top down realignment. Their values are about processes for processes as well as looking good for Wall Street and therby stealing dollars that are not earned and being in the black on paper. This year we are looking at high attrition rates and forcing good people on the front line to leave. This move will enable stockholders to earn trust with this company and not layoff anymore than they need to lay off, and saving the company money and looking good on paper while the root of this company remains on to destroy motivation and growth.

Poster # 5 The Sp reps we have can't close for sh** and they run around chasing signatures while bringing no value to the table. Your a joke.. LOL

I call bullshit. All companies have good reps and bad reps including Merck who has a lot of people who just do PR, oh I forgot that gets you a high rating. Most Schering reps could have been a combination of Zig Ziglar and Tony Robbins and doubled business and they still would have been rated a S-1. The deck was stacked to protect Merck folks on the next lay offs which was occur by year end.

Look at special assignments, manager pets. Could predict who would get packaged with an S1. Next layoff candidates what do ya think?

SP reps are definitely not the only ones getting a bad deal. I am(was)a Sr. Exec rep and although I was called for an interview, did not get the position. Thats not the hardest part of the equation. Whats difficult is seeing the quality and caliber of the S3 reps-for the most part younger, female, and "change agent" types. I have been successful for a long time with the company-much longer than these S3 appointees. Maybe they are better at being cheerleaders or something, I dont know. I have a SP counterpart who is excellent, who didnt even get an interview, and he is better than any of the S3 position placements by a long shot. They can come up with all the wordsmithing they want, but everybody knows whats going on here. Maybe some of the SP reps will get a raise in salary, but that wont keep them happy for too long. The atmosphere around this company is the worst ever. For those who want to leave, I dont think the company even cares anymore. Several year ago, maybe 3 or 4 years, they were begging people not to leave. We have not heard that one for a while now. Horrible morale, horrible leadership, no new ideas, and a stagnant field force who will do the minimum in the hopes of keeping their jobs-all the while looking for another job on the companys time. How long can a company survive with that kind of a climate? We have 5 years max left to go. I hope you younger reps are doing a lot of networking and polishing the resume. Beleive it or not, there was a time when the name of Merck on a resume truly meant something. Not anymore.

Dude, I feel your pain. Maybe we can be a little bit happy-it sounds like there are still some decent Merck reps around like yourself. Wish I had some in my territory. I am using my company time to investigate other leads. I know many of my counterparts are doing the same thing. Then we can have a full sales force of contract reps. Lets see how far that gets them on their trust and value scores! Oh yeah, thats right, thats what they are trying to do anyway.

The leadership at this company is embarrassing. Merck is a joke and everyone in this industry knows it. S1, S2, or S3, it's a ridiculous rating system that has lowered morale to an all time low. Productivity and efficiency are nonexistent with this new model. Great job Merck senior leadership, way to go! This company needs a new regime as the current one is clearly incompetent.

Hey, settle down now milky. You sound like you need a happy pill! ;)

I was recently a senior rep but I really differentiated myself in my district this year. And yes, I was given the opportunity to accept the S3 position and I took it. Of course I did. Wouldn't you?

They are giving me a big increase in salary and bonus potential. Plus I get to work with all of my region counterparts and teach them how to be more relevant. Most of the old reps around here just need to leave or be quiet. This is the future - the younger generation of reps rule!!
