Seems there's a dramatic increase in the last five years, too. That's a coincidence, isn't it? All of the patent expiries with no new products, and the violations are rising in tandem. The people running big pharma are unethical and should lose their jobs!!

Agreed, if the government really wants the behavior to stop. As it is the fines are priced in to the business plan so everyone wins except for the people taking meds for unapproved uses. Hopefully no one gets hurt except for the US's taxpayers, sick and elderly. Nice, big pharma. You're really a great bunch of blokes.

Paying these chump change fines is now just a part of doing business in big pharma. Until they actually put people in jail, nothing will change.

I have never seen anyone in "big pharma" write a prescription for the sick or elderly.

I actually have seen the sick and elderly attempt to go to Canada to get their prescriptions filled and they were fought, hard, by big pharma.

Nice attitude on a thread discussing the embarrassment that many of the major pharma companies have brought the industry to. You must be one of them -- "hey, this is capitalism" when it suits you, and then, "hey, you have to be special to manufacture these kinds of products" at other times, and "hey, pharma innovates and produces products that extend lives" at other times.

The hypocrisy is astounding. More astounding is that the government (us) doesn't do anything about it.
