Evaluating cath lab position- never sold in surgery/role instructing physician, looking for feedback

Hey everybody,

So I have a great opportunity with a cath lab position selling stents, baloons, guidewires in the cath lab for peripheral vascular diseases. I have sold capital equipment but in non surgical/operating modalities where it's mostly office based discussions and meetings. I interact with physicians but not instructing them on use of equipment really at all.

So my question is for all of you- had anybody made this switch and have any feedback? I know I would never want to do trauma/on call or anything like that but cath lab seems like a good middle ground plus the money they are saying which a friend has confirmed sounds great. I have a cath lab background but again like I said, more office based discussions and I am rarely ever in the cath lab.

It sounds like the cases are determined a week prior, so my schedule will be somewhat set, there is no on call, weekends, or anything like that. I am young so willing to take the plunge for what sounds like great money, but I know it will be a much different job than I have now.

Just be ready to hustle. Plenty of players and ankle biters in the market. If you aren't in the case one of your competitors will be. Cases can be long and rarely start on time. Money is good and it is a challenging job. I would go for it if it is with one of the mainline companies and not a one or two product company.
Major players: Boston Sci, Medtronic, Bard, Abbott, Cardinal, Cook,
Niche players: CSI, Spectranetics, Avinger, Atrium, Penumbra, Gore, Terumo, Angiodynamics, Vascular Solutions, Philips/Volcano, Merit.

Probably a few more companies that I couldn't think of. Nothing wrong with the Niche companies, most of them have at least one good quality product. A lot of them are acquisition targets. As you can see, plenty of competition.
