Ethicon purchases Surgrx

Who would have thought? With the thermal spread, sticking, and general temperature I never thought we would go with a bipolar vessel sealing system aquisition. Always thought maybe we needed something for occasional bleeding like a paddle or Klepinger but never something like this.

I guess you weren't with this company when they tried to make Pegasys work...

I am actually looking forward to Surgrx......remember everything you learned about energy can be distorted in training. One of my friends from college is with a competitor for one of the other market leaders. They show they do not get any warmer than 100 degrees while the scalpel gets pretty hot. He proved it to me by activating one and touching it. I dont think touching the Ace would be very bright. Also most of the new bipolar instruments have less thermal spread and sticking than we were taught and we all know about the Ace and bleeding. I think that this move will pan out and allow us to go after market share we don't have in certain markets!

who cares if we bought it. all that means is that we'll shortly OWN the energy market. Enseal's a better deal than Ligasure for sure, so it's a win-win. The only thing up in the air is who and how will get sold and the comp. It's all good. If I was a Ligasure rep I'd be very unhappy right now.

How will you own the energy market when you dont market an ESU ie. FORCE-FX or SYS 5000?

The Olympus/Gyrus merger is the real interesting one. They have a new modified Sonosurge(re-usable harmonic) and the Gyrus which is best for ObGyn. I think all of this including a pencil will be on one box including a morcelator. Just my thoughts.

I realize that I am posting on the Ethicon board- but how much do you believe this development (SurgRx) will affect VL and Ligasure? I am interviewing for a VL expansion territory. I am being led to believe nothing comes close to Ligasure and this is not a big deal.

I've spoken with two VL reps over the last week and the first question they asked me was, "So, what's going on with enseal and your company?" They're definitely curious as to how EES is going to roll this out to the customer.

Pretty much the same reaction in my territory. Those VL guys that walked by with that smug look on their face 6 months ago are all the sudden mighty friendly. I believe they know we are in the game, and we're here to compete across the board. Any word on how long it will take to roll this out? 2nd qtr next year?

The meeting went GREAT.

- Fred Wagner is the Dr. Phil of the medical device world, only Fred's still married.

- Kip is like John Madden, only much taller and thinner and younger and he works for Ethicon Endo instead of Brett Favre.

- Laurel's kinda hot right? (Oh whoops that was probably inappropriate.)

- The SurgRx reps are all chomping at the bit to have "conversations" about their JNJ jobs... er I mean careers.

- The Ligasure reps are running around trying to hurry up their orders for their big box of air that doesn't fit on a boom, needs to be stood in front of to control (tough when it's close to the field), doesn't have ABC*, doesn't offer an improvement to the bovie, is a trojan horse for more expensive devices, hasn't shown any clinical improvement in vessel sealing i.e. sticking, char, thermal spread, seal strength... oh but it's faster right? Too bad it blows up in surgery (about 3 out of 10 fail in the first 6 mos). Oh yeah it also costs about 2X what the SurgRx ESU costs. But contracts are contracts right? OK that's enough on that...

- This will be fun to watch (unless you're on the purple team). I predict EES having the #1 spot in about 5 years. Gyrus should be off the market in 2.

- I also predict the 65 new EES reps doing many donuts in their new company cars, which will hopefully not be fitted out with "donut detection devices". (PLEASE NOTE: By "donuts" I don't mean the things in the pink box that the Ligasure reps seem to enjoy more than the Stairmaster.) See your hospital parking lots for black circular evidence in Q1.

- Question for any veteran EES reps out there: Who holds your corporation's land speed record for a company car running premium (91 octane) fuel? What is the distance-jump record? Just wanting to know what I'm up against. Will we get EES crash helmets? They said, and let me say that again here, it's all about safety!

VL rep here. I haven't lost a moments sleep over SurgRx. You EES reps think VL is asleep at the wheel? Like we arent coming out w new products? The botom line line is we are moving the market to Force Triad, and once that generator is in there, you have no chance. By the time SurgRx and EES get their shit together, it will be too late.

Haven't lost a moments sleep??? That must be the reason your checking and writing on a board that reads ETHICON AND SURGRX

Dumbass...ever heard the phrase "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer?" You geniuses have given me more great info on your product, and how to sell against it, than corporate marketing ever could. Keep up the good work, dickweeds.
