Ethicon Barbed Suture

Does anyone have any detailed information on Ethicon's Barbed Suture.

They have filed a 510k and believe they received approval. Is that a 90 day time frame to market?

Thoughts on this product if you have seen it in preclinicals?

Heard it's great. Needle is perfect for cuff closure, barbs are unidirectional.

What BS, they aren't going to make a new needle. The ones on the market are fine as is.

Ones on the market don't fit through da Vinci ports unless you bend them

isi is coming out with irrigation suction. remember the guys that built us surgical are running isi . They want it all . So I would not be surprised if they come out with it plus ours is way to long anyway

Ethicon filed in October and received approval for their suture in December.

They should be able to market their barbed suture in February.

BTW, Covidien's barbed suture works very well.

My guess would be PDS and Monocryl, I don't think you'd be able to barb a braid.
