Eric Cantor, Republican Leader, after huricane, NO disaster relief...

...without spending cuts." Wow, these TEA party types are out of control. First they held the countrys credit rating hostage, now, during a hurricane, which might be as bad as anything we've seen in 100 years (in terms of impact), will try to hold up any disaster relief, if needed, unless they are offset by spending cuts.

Again, more "My way or the highway" from the republicans. Hopefully Obama will call their bluff; sometimes a bully needs to be popped n the mouth, before they backdown. Eve in the face of a potentially catastrophic event affecting the almost 20% of the countries population, they are worried about spending cuts. Unbelieveable!

You have lost you mind. W The USA has always taken care of people in these situations. As far as the debt, if we don't do something, we will not have a viable country to worry about. It will be broke. If you were in debt like our country and went to the bank for a loan, would they give you one? NO. Would you have good credit? NO. Why are people so stupid. Stop waiting around for someone to give you something and go get a job. Do you depend on your gov't for things? Don't do that. Grow up!

We had unpaid tax cuts worth trillions, unpaid wars worth trillions per year, unpaid med-d worth trillions, and no complaints about credit cards etc from anyone. Do you really agree with Eric Cantor, that there will be no disaster relief to the states unless there are corresponding budget cuts? Lets focus on the substance of the post, and not get off on wild TEA party diatribes.

Umm, the Federal govt is not a "FAMILY in debt". So I guess you agree, if there is a Katrina type catastrophe, too bad! But in the same vain as your questioning, if you are a family in debt"

- Do you cut your expenses? Yes
- Do you decrease your income but taking a lower paying job, or part-time? NO
- Do You increase you income with a second job (wife works, etc) - YES
- If your roof caves in, do you say "No fixing the roof, unless we paying for food"? No

The bottomline is that in a household, in emergencies, you cut back on the nice to haves, and you do what you need to do to get the money to pay for the need to haves. If you are retired or reduced you work to part time, you reverse course, and go back to work, so that you return to your original cash flow. The US needs to, and will do the same, vis-a-vis the bush tax cuts will expire.

This is crazy, we thank Eric Cantor for going on the record with more of this extremist TEA party type nonsense; it will be another soundbite to provide contrast. The fact is that if there is a need, there WILL be emergency aid, as there always is! Obama will ensure, by executive order, if need be. The will be NO debt limit type brinksmanship, or hostage taking! Thanks for the soundbite Eric! Its amazing to me that anyone would even attempt to support such a clearly outrageous proposition.

By the way, I whole heartedly agree with the need to cut back on our expenses, including slashing trillions from the defense budget, and any fat from domestic programs. But like 75% of americans, I agree that increased tax revenue must be part of the equation as well. I agree with that left wing radical warren buffet that the wealthiest account for the biggest % of our wealth since the 1920's, but their tax contribution is the lowest that they have ever been. These are verifiable facts, and not really subject to frothing at the mouth diatribes. BTW, no one reading this post is among the wealthy, not even close, so dont take it personally!

The "bullies" got popped in the mouth in November 2010. You are an ignorant idiot

Did you know that every time taxes have been cut that gov't revenues have increased due to more spending? The gov't should not take our money, instead let us have what we make and spend it where we want to and support and employee people and get taxes from spending and income taxes. If the gov't takes our money, we have less to spend and employee people. Can you not understand that. Give someone a fish and feed them for a day, teach them to fish and they can eat for a live time. How hard is that... Now put your hand back in your pocket, I am not giving you a hand out.

This is simply not true, and you have no evidence to back this up. The theory is that cut taxes will increase spending, which increases demand, which increases jobs, which add more workers, which increases tax revenue.

George bush made huge tax cuts in 2001 and 2003, to the tune of trillions of dollars. In the end, we went from a budget surplus, to a budget deficit of 7 trillion+ dollars, we lost 8 million+ jobs, GDP imploded, and we came very close to an economic depression.

This is not a political statement, it is verifiably factual!

This is the typical Republican/Tea Party soundbite. No data to support this. The only "proof" is what you hear on Fox News.

The country, mostly under Republican leadership spent way beyond its means on arms, warfare and contracts and concessions to their friendly corporations, like oil. Now that it's time to pay for those credit cards, they want to default or pay on the backs of the middle class.

Here we go with the insults. You would never be brave enough to insult me to my face, but courageously do so anonymously! I commend the TEA party for their effort. They were an energized group, in an off year election. So what have is the extremist from one party create a lot of energy and vote in high numbers, while the other party stays home. It happens with practically every president, even Ronald Reagan. The republicans were voted out during the off election of his first term. Nothing new hear. However, the TEA party has hijacked the greater Republican party and have tremendous damage with their extremist uncompromising positions. They are universally loathed, as they have an approval rating of less than 25%, and will almost certainly lead to defeat for the republicans in 2012. For example that vote by virtually all republicans, to end medicare, and replace it with a voucher program was political suicide. The fact the the republican nominee has to aspire to the extremist views of the TEA party will bode well for him in the primary, but will be devastating for him in the general election.

With a 25% approval rating for the TEA party, I like my chances! Go PERRY GO!, GO BACHMANN GO! PERRY/BACHMANN in 2012

Hey liberal pinheads. A news flash for you idiots, and yes, I would say it to your face! S.S, medicare, and medicaid are 115 trillion dollars in unfunded liabilities. That's a fact! How the heck are we going to continue to pay for that? You libs have your heads buried so far up your arses that you need to plug your ears and sneeze to get it out. Wake up because we can't continue down this road. http://www.usdebtclock.org/

Again, here we go with the insults. If you said this to me in person, I would immediately thrash you, no matter where we stood. Lets arrange a little off site conversation at the next meeting, and we will see just how brave you are.

Now as far as your 115 Trillion, please stop quoting TEA party or other extreme right wing fanatic propaganda as fact. I searched for this crap on the internet and the only sources are literally far-far right ring blogs and websites. This is just some spectacular talking point repeated over and over again, mainly among themselves. They repeat the same line, but never say how this crazy number is derived. I dare you to link to ANY reputable source, of ANY political persuasion , ie the Wall Street Journal, etc, I simply dare you! I know that you can not, because I looked. Sorry, only the looney tunes are spouting this garbage among themselves. Not even Fox news will touch this. Some nut probably took our current situation, applied false assumptions, and extrapolated it over the next 100 years. This type of extrapolation is not legitimate, hence no econ0mists are spouting this non sense. Also, the scale of dollars will be far different 100 years from now, ie in 1910 the avg salary was 750/year 46,000/yr.

So Mr. Tea Party, here some more interesting things that we should all believe right:

- No such thing as global warming
- Obama is NOT American
- Obama was not born in the US
- Obama NEVER registered for the draft
- Obamas birth certificate is fake
- the Lunar Landing NEVER happened
- Obama is a muslim
- Obamacare is socialized medicine
- Obama is a socialist
- Obama wants to take away whites peoples farms
- Obama can't function without a teleprompter, even uses it for answers at press conferences.
- Barack Obama is the Antichrist
- Obama is a manchurian candidate, put in place to destroy america
- Obama is a Nazi-style eugenicist
- Obama's stimulus provided cash for a "levitating train" between Disneyland and Nevada brothels
- Obama is a fascist
- Evolution is JUST a theory, is not real
- Obama has created his own version of the Hitler Youth
- The president wants to raise MY taxes
- The president is taking aim at the Second Amendment and wants to take our guns away.
- Obama does not salute the flag
- Obama wants thinks the national anthem is too war like, and wants to change it to "I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing"?
- The world trade centers were brought down by the government
- Jews want to dominate the world
- UFO Recovered at Roswell
- John F. Kennedy’s Assasination, more than one person involved.
- Princess Diana was Murdered by the Royal Family
- Pearl Harbor Was Allowed to Happen

So let me get this straight, you are quoting a debt clock, for your information? Ehsat are the assumptions, how long is the projection for.

Cuckoo! Cuckoo! Cuckoo! Cuckoo! Cuckoo! Cuckoo! Cuckoo! Cuckoo! Cuckoo! Cuckoo!
Cuckoo! Cuckoo! Cuckoo! Cuckoo! Cuckoo! Cuckoo! Cuckoo! Cuckoo! Cuckoo! Cuckoo!

Cant believe that you are quoting an official debt clock with static assumptions! Not too bright! Obviously, over the next 100 years there will be changes made to the programs, without making people suffer, there will be dramatic cuts made to the military budget, and the wealtiest 2% and and ALL corporations will pay their fair share of taxes.

My suggestion to you is that you speak to your Republican/Tea party pals and make them understand THAT EVERYTHING will be on the table to address our issues.

TEA Party extremists? Hey numb-nuts, check the history the Dems have with the KKK then get out of grannies basement and find your own place to live.

OK Mr. Tea Party, this is likely based on a 75 year projection, and based on future dollar values. If setting aside todays dollars to pay through 2085, for these programs, the unfunded liabilities would be about 45 trillion$, according to the CBO. It is import to note that as the democrats have been saying all along, and accortding to the CBO, social security is not that bad off, and can be resolved with minor tweaks; it accounts for only 7 trillion of this 45 trillion. Remember this is spreadout over 75 years. Social Security really is a non issue!

Medicare and Medicaid are an issue, according to the CBO, the currently trajectory is unsustainable. The main reason is the explosive year over year cost explosions in healthcare costs. This is exactly why the republican plan, that 95%+ vote for, is a bad idea! You can not eliminate medicare, and replace it with a voucher system that transfer the certain risk of these huge yearly costs from the govt, to the elderly on fixed incomes. This would be devastating. So you give me a 500/mth dollar voucher today, that will only be worth 300/month in a year or two. If Im on a fixed income, where is the additional money going to come from. Like it or not, medicare is a part of the social safety net, and virtually every american polled (democrat and republican) wants it to be preserved as gauranteed benefit. Medicre, as we know it, is here to stay, so get over it!

Again, the medicare projection assume that nothing will change, this is obviously not the case. obviously bush produces an UNFUNDED med-d program was a huge mistake, which most republicans refuse to acknowledge. There are many parts of the helthcare reform act that will slow this growth, the CBO has stated that the plan will decrease the deficit:

- Slowed growth of payments for medicare
- Direct negotiation of drug prices, by the federal govt; george bush fought this
- The allowance of bio similars

Other things that will likely occur, in order to address medicare:

- There will almost certainly be means testing (weathy earners will pay higher premiums)
- There will certainly be higher revenues generated from taxes.
- Many of the most prevalent disease will have an inundation of extremely high quality generics available, ie statins, etc.

In conclusion, the main "unfunded" liability impacting your debt clock is medicare, (and some medicaid mainly affecting the elderly, nursing homes etc). The projection is over at least 75 years, which in and of itself makes it useless (too far out), and assumes the status quo; ie does not take into account even the healthcare reform law.

These issues will easily be addressed as soon as both political parties realize that modifications must be made to the program, and taxes must be raised, at least on the wealthiest. I must say though, I am thrilled that the republicans voted to eliminate medicare.

OK, so Obama is doing a great job!!! Right, does anyone believe that? He is and idiot. He has not done anything to move this country forward. Backwards is the only thing he has done.

OK, so Obama is doing a great job!!! Right, does anyone believe that? He is and idiot. He has not done anything to move this country forward. Backwards is the only thing he has done.

as of today, 45 % of people think he is doing a GOOD JOB, 25% think the TEA party is doing a good job, 29% think that John Boehner is doing a GOOD Job, 25% think the republicans in congress are doing a GOOD job.

The fact that you think he is an idiot is of no issue, as you present no facts, and that was undoubted a political opinion held from day one. There is nothing that he could do, or could have done to change your opinion. Im sure he knows that, as do I. However, you'd better get used to him, because as long as the TEA party controls the partys agenda and tone, and dominates the sway in the republican nominating procces, the republicans dont have a snow balls chance to when the general election not year. GO PERRY GO!

The bottom line. Liberals are living in La La Land. Obama is going to lose like Carter did against the Gipper. Obama couldn't run a lemonade stand. He is so unqualified to be president that it's pathetic. Keep up your hopes you bleeding hearts! There will be an uprising of common sense very soon.
