Enough with these DBMs in the Field

Holy Shit, this is getting absurd.

This is actually starting to become embarrassing.

Quit justifying your job, and go do something constructive.

If the rep sucks, or numbers are down then ride ALL YOU WANT……that is justified.

Putting everyone on these metrics is just ABSURD.

I spend have of my time apologizing and/or making fun of you to my doctors to save face.

You are in our territory more than ANY other Pharma DM, by far!!!

99% of the customers are tired of seeing you.

STARTING to get embarrassing? This has BEEN embarrassing and quite sad for at least 2 years. Endless field visits. DBMs thinking they are helping...when they are actually hurting us and our access.

I guess you're just now realizing that if a DBM is in the field as much as they're supposed to be, they would ride with us every 2-3 weeks? So the reason that it seems that there is a recent uptick in field rides is that (drum roll)…..THEY'RE NOW BEING HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR DOING THEIR #1 JOB: FIELD RIDES/COACHING!

We have to justify the redundant hordes of DCS and DBMs out here, so you might as well get used to it, Toots. Next up is the nefarious 3-in-a-car, where RBDs "coach" DBMs by critiquing how the DBMs coach us. If you want to see a real horse and pony show, think of the reality of this: an RBD pulls down a salary of $220,000 on the low end, with an average of $280,000. Plus bonus, plus a litany of bennies plus car. So think of the waste of a RBD doing 3 rides a week with 3 different $160,000 a year DBMs bull-shitting their way through a "typical" day of coaching.

All the while, our customers roll their eyes and play along with the facade.

One day soon this will all go away.

I agree the field ride metric is crazy - the RBDs have field ride metrics now too. You have 4 of us in a pod and if you do the math, this means AT BEST (with a 12 person district) a manager is in your territory over 25% of the time, and at worst (8 person district) up to 40% of the time. Combine that with increasingly regular RFT visits and/or RBD rides and the redundancy is absurd. If you are like my territory and have maybe a couple dozen offices at most you can even bring a manager, its no wonder our access gets worse by the day!

We need to stop the insanity - there's no earthly reason why there should be 8 person districts. Hell, we can probably half the number of districts - have 20-24 per district and then a manager would be with you roughly once a quarter, which is more than enough for a tenured rep.

Can't wait to see what is done with the "overflow" managers from the DCA screw up. What the heck are they going to do!?

If you only want your manager to see you once per quarter, you have something to hide. Keep in mind, they are responsible for evaluating your performance and/or deciding on your salary increases. If you really think seeing 30 calls a year puts them in a position to evaluate you fairly, then you must not think very much of yourself. Mine can come see me as many times as he wants. Not that I want him or need him, but at least he can see what I do and make sure I get a fair shake in terms of my rating. I do the same thing when he's there and when he's not, so he's welcome to tag along. Why would I care?

...because you look like a child in front of your doctors. And its not just you, its all of your pod mates who are also with your manager/RFT in front of the same doctors. Like i said, there's only a couple dozen places we can take a manager in our geography. Divide that into 4 reps.

Do you really think its all about evaluation? My manager can tell howw I'm doing after my first call. That's on them if they really need over 100 calls to figure out if you're doing a good job.

And anyway, the "subjective" part of your evaluation counts for $0 in IC and only 20% of your merit increase. On a good year, you may get, what, a $2500 raise? That's all of $500 a year in raise that comes from how you're doing in the field. I think once a quarter is more than enough for that value.

Now, if we were IC'd on behaviors and/or given merit increases that were commensurate with our behaviors, maybe I'd agree with you.

All of that high-paid staff, sitting in doctors offices for large chunks of time, just waiting for the DCS to be able to drop off samples and blurt out a 50 second commercial. Can you imagine how a $179,000 a year IM would feel if she knew that the 3 fairly well dressed people sitting in her in her waiting room for 40 minutes made more than $500,000 a year in salary alone?!

Side bar: Please be careful. You're taking on a sacred cow with your comment. Less DCS means fewer DBM and RBDs. You will be slapped down for uttering such truths. You will see….

Quite the opposite. If you want your DBM in your car all the time, you are just sucking ass, or blowing him to get promoted.

NOT ONE SINGLE DCS that is worth anything would want their DBM with them every month for a two day ride along.

if you need someone to tell you that you are doing great every month, then you are a child.

You sir, or madame are an assclown.

OK. I guess hiding from your DBM makes you really cool. Congrats!

"Hiding from my DBM"??? That's priceless.
Actually as a DCS, working when the DBM isn't around is what an adult rep does.

Talk about hiding…….how about DBMs falsifying two or three day ride along reports for their boss to make them look busy.
DBMs admitted that the days in the field are a joke, but they are just following a directive???

At least the field rep has some interaction with customers.

I feel bad for the DBMs, they are in a tough spot, but don't tell me that all of these field visits are necessary or productive.

It's all a shell game. We reps (3 or 4 of us to a customer!!) claim to be swamped. Meanwhile, so many that I know brag about chilling out in between sample-only calls, and only hustle to get a signature post-4:00pm to look busy. My 3 DBMs over-inflated their ability to coach us, often while leaving us at 3:00pm to "prepare for a conference call". DBM #2 once complained that our RBD worked with only 1-2 DBMs a month, but was always out of the office on "field rides".

Of course they aren't. In the future, we can just assume that as soon as numbers go down, you are bad at your job, and we can fire you. Does that sound good? I also guess that means the whole pod gets the same rating and gets fired together.

Also, we'll just go ahead and say it's OK for to go about your job without anyone ever evaluating or coaching you on your ability to do your job or help you get any better at all. We'll just let you run and assume that you're doing what your supposed to do.

Sounds like a great way to run a company. 3000+ unsupervised people running free.

Anyone think that the DBMs hate you just as much as you hate them and they don't want to ride with us either!

Just grow up and do your job, its not that hard!

So,
DBMs don't want to ride with reps……
reps don't want DBMs to ride with them……

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY
customers don't want to see reps, and ESPECIALLY not WITH DBMs (surely not every week)….

I know, let's INCREASE field rides!!!!!!!!

Brilliant.
this plan is full proof.

Yeah, it's "full" proof alright.

Don't complain, just go about your field account engagement like always. If you change the paradigm, you'll confuse everyone all the way up the chain. Just do your ride-alongs, drop your samples and leave behinds and wait your turn for the eventual downsizing every company must undertake to appropriately match with their approved products.
