First off, sorry to all who were affected. I’m early in my career and wanted to plan for a comfortable retirement 25-30 years from now. This was eye opening. What is the key because I have a feeling that this will happen again and no one will ever work for the same company for a lifetime. Thanks in advance

So cute Im not even sure if its not a joke. But here goes it ...

Do good work, honor your commitments and dont piss people off.

Continue your education for life and expect at least one career change and industry change.

Save your money and dont buy a house based on your maximum high salary. Buy something you are comfortable with. Dont live up to your high salary cause those high salary jobs are hard to come by. If you are new to the workforce then you should know this 3 pecent unemployment is very rare. Most of my time in the workforce has been one rcesto the next with a few breaks in between.

Follow your guts, not all the fools who think everything will last for ever.

Lastly work so you can live, dont live so you can work. So many lost soulds at Genentech devoid of humor and so scared they simply mimic whatever they think is the current trend to not getbthe axe.

“Do good work and honor your commitments”? Yeah that will matter to ZS consulting when they decide on who to axe. Listen kid, this is a scary and cold world. Don’t trust anyone and always look out for yourself. You have NO friends in this industry no matter what they try to preach.
