Duck Dynasty

"While some of Phil's unfiltered comments to the reporter were coarse, his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible. Phil is a Godly man who follows what the Bible says are the greatest commandments: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart' and 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' Phil would never incite or encourage hate," the Robertsons said in a statement.

Answer is no. There is enough hate in the world. Funny how religion brings that out in a person. I never saw the show. But they should show what a religious fool he is.

No. And the rest of the Duck Dynasty family obviously doesn't think so either, along with millions of viewers.

Who cares? I find the uproar about the gay comments are overshadowing what he said about black people.

Oh the arrogance of A&E

Especially galling is the fact many of the same people backing Robertson are the ones who in late November advocated the firing of MSNBC’s Martin Bashir — who sophomorically called Palin a “world-class idiot” on his show and grotesquely suggested someone should defecate in her mouth (referencing a notorious slave punishment after she likened the U.S. debt to China as being “like slavery”). Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity, in particular, found it “mind-boggling” that Bashir wasn’t “suspended or even fired” for his attack on Palin (Bashir eventually resigned). Yet, when it came to Robertson’s attack on millions of homosexuals and black people, Hannity said this week it was a simple expression of “his right to free speech and his religious views.”

There's a fool connected to this post, but he's not a religious one.

He didnt say anything inappropriate about gays or blacks. Get a grip.

He has the right to say whatever he wants and the network running his show also has the right to hire and fire whomever they want for whatever reason - maybe they do business with and/or have a lot of gay/lesbian/black people and maybe they (or their advertisers) found it offensive. So are you saying they have to pay someone whose views don't reflect theirs?

That's like saying CP doesn't have the right to mod this board. Thy have the right to ban or modmo people and the right to reinstate them as we have just seen.

Hmmmm. Interesting post for someone who took the position you did on the baker in Colorado and the photographer in New Mexico. So you're now all for economic freedom for folks to serve who they want?

If A&E is stupid enough to cater to the gay fringe, then fine, let them fire the Robertsons who will then take the show to another channel who Would love to have the huge revenue they bring in.

I like the show and I don't think he should have been fired or suspended. Although I may not agree with what someone may say, I will defend their right to say it.

In this case you have to take everything into context and consider that Phil Robertson also said:"I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me." That being said, the Dixie Chicks deserved a lot better when they where maligned for speaking out years ago.

I think our society has gotten far too sensitive about anything perceived to be negative against certain groups . . . And this opinion comes from an avowed 'liberal'.

The thing about the blacks that he worked with all being happy...really? They were too afraid to speak out or freely in front of a white man. The part about how he is "down with the brown" - my paraphrasing - only because he is "white trash" - can you not see that he had to devalue himself to give you the feeling of his equality with the black people that he is speaking about?

I have a grip, jackass.

I also think the man can say what he wants in an interview for a magazine. A&E exercised their right to not have him on the network. They will probably take the show elsewhere by paying A&E a lot of dough (the new network).

I certainly defend Phil's right to say what he feels. I have also enjoyed the show but find it getting too scripted and hokey. Some of the best moments are not obvious. Wish they would just film them living.

That was far more offensive Fuckie. But, it just shows how powerful the gay lobby is in this country. I remember about 20 years ago, a Pharmacy Director telling me, that he had to cover all of the HIV Drugs, or else the backlash would be so severe, that he the negative publicity would kill his Health Plan.

First of all leave the name calling to our less educated folks here. He and the family will never except Blacks or Gays. The family has shown their true colors.:D I hope they all stay on. The comedians will have a field day with these folks.

I didn't take a position on either of the items you quote.

Show me. Everybody has to follow the law. I don't know of any law that says they can't get rid of an entertainer that speaks against their values. And if they want to go to a different network, A & E's loss. You're starting to sound like Charlie Sheen. He didn't go anywhere and Chuck Lorre ate all that profit but that's his prerogative.

Oh, boy! Now you are either dishonest or suffering from memory loss.

And, no everyone shouldn't have to follow the law if its a bogus law at odds with the Constitution. So babbling about "the law" provides you no refuge. The issue is the principles involved. Not what law may be on the books at a particular point in time. Laws come and go. If justice is served then unconstitutional laws are taken off the books. Regardless local ordinances at odds with the Bill of rights don't impress me. If they impress you, then I feel sorry for you.

The point is that you are hypocritical in your application of this wonderful concept of economic freedom you've stumbled upon.

Good post, but there really is no comparison between this situation and the Dixie Chicks, who got their just desserts. The market did the Dixie Chicks in, not their business partners. Huge difference.

Just more proof that you don't have a grip and I was right all along.

He said nothing wrong about blacks. He was giving his experience and his perception. HE is the expert on that. Not you.

Phil Robertson and his family will triumph. They are going to continue to make tons of money and get the message of Christian faith and family out there.

The comedians "dreadfull" barbs will bounce off them like BBs off a battleship.

They will have the last laugh.

U R correct big bird. They will make tons of money. But not from me. "get the message of Christian faith and family out there." Racism, bigotry and intolerance. Those R his good Christian and family values.
Those comedians R already having the last laugh.
