Memorial Hospital of Converse County has begun using the da Vinci Si Surgical System in their operating room.
The system has several features designed to provide additional clinical benefits and efficiency in the operating room, including the ability to perform select surgeries from a single incision in the patient’s bellybutton.
Together, these technological advancements provide surgeons with precision, dexterity and control that enable a minimally invasive approach for many complex surgical procedures, a press release stated.
While the hospital plans to focus their robotic surgery program on gynecological and general abdominal procedures, other surgeons from around the region have already contacted Memorial Hospital about performing their own surgeries in Douglas using the new system, the release said. The da Vinci Si System can be used for a multitude of procedures, including but not limited to: prostatectomy, hysterectomy, myomectomy, coronary artery bypass, mitral valve repair and colorectal surgery.
