Double Duty for Brent

While Brent is in Aliso Viejo, California trying to salvage the surgical business he can take the 30 minute drive to Irvine to visit ISTA pharmaceuticals. There he can finish the sale of the Pharma business.

Overall not a bad gig for the CEO. He gets to spend the last year of his CEO career in California wining and dining with potential buyers for the B+L business units.

Brent trying to "salvage" the surgical business - thats a good one. The only thing he knows less about global warming...

Most of the good surgical folks left years ago - its literally a shell of its former self. Pharma truly is a joke, and anyone that takes even a slightly deeper look at the p&l will see that ALL of the real growth is generated globally by OTC products like vitamins and eye drops - and Imean all of it -- and that's not what anyone wants to pay nice multiples for! So on the surface pharma reports nice top line growth and earningsm whicle under the hood the engine is not what it appears to be...

Vision care does have a great pipeline in theory - the question is does the curent team have the discipline to invest what is necessary to bring it to market? Without Pete in charge it is highly doubtful - his courage to invest might be the only thing that would have saved it - and look what he got for it...

Everyone there is just hunkering down and waiting for something to happen - but no one knows what that is... So sad for such a great brand and formerly great company.

Brent is suffering from "White Knight Syndrome". Only he can come in on a white horse and rescue surgical from the evil Dragons. Since he knows nothing about the surgical business, this white knight could turn red a few minutes after the battle begins.
