I was pleased to hear that another of my friends in last years downsizing has found a new position. I only know of one person who has not as yet found a job and he seems to be only interested in casual, part time work. After 30 plus years in pharma he has earned a break.
Most of us seem to have done rather well. My salary is damned near what I was making when I left Novartis. Other than it seems no one is offering a pension anymore, my benefits are just as good if not better. I have a better company car, upgraded at no expense to myself and a few other accoutrements I did not have previously. It is a small company which in many ways is an advantage and for those of you who think no one will hire an ex pharma rep to sell devices, think again. Yes there are some who will reject you but there will be others who will at least give you an interview, from there it's up to you.
I was lucky in that someone in the management line knew me. This made getting the interview easier. I did have 6 total interviews before the offer was made, it can be a laborious process. To be honest I would love to be 30 years old and have caught on with this organization, there appears to be tons of upward mobility.
Don't give up the ship my friends, there is life after Novartis. There are also device companies who are willing to at least take a look at ex pharma types. If I can do it at my age, you young, eager, smarter than I types should have no problem.
Have a great day my friends and remember.....
Never let the bastards get you down.
