Does Merck give summer hours to HQ employees?

Actually, they work so hard and with so much focus at HQ that they are, most years, completely unaware of the passing of time or seasons. Summer or winter, time away from work is wasted time to these heroes. This dedication is one of the key factors in Merck's astounding success and the number one reason why they are have the brightest prospects on the planet for any pharmaceutical company.

YES! I will actually answer the question. Merck gives summer hours to HQ employees. It is NOT mandatory but it is usually decided on a Dept-wide basis. People who want to participate in the summer hours program work an extra hour longer each day Mon-Thurs and then they can take off after 1:00 pm on Friday to get to their "summer homes" at the beach or NJ shore. If you miss a day of work during the week, you cannot take summer hours that week. Many people plan to participate but may only actually leave early 1-2 Fridays over the whole summer. Some people us Friday afternoons to catch up since less interruptions and fewer meetings scheduled. Not everyone who is offered summer hours partakes of them as they can't work an extra hour during the week. Some depts. even let you work from home on Friday morning so you don't have to get dressed up and come it for 1/2 a day. Summer hours usually run from Memorial Day to Labor Day. You are welcome!

It works well for the HIGHER UPS as they can work from home to get their extra time in. But 8-6 4 days / wk gets old all summer long! Of course if you don't have kids or a social life it works well. 8:30-6:30 is even worse! the reality is most work can be completed in 32 hrs and no one is around on FRI's so just close!!!!!
