Does anyone know how IVD sales pays?

I am interviewing with a company and wouldn't even know what type of offer to expect (too early to speak to them about money). Any idea what the average base/commission to expect is? Or the range from high to low? Thanks

I am assuming by IVD you mean in vitro diagnostics. If that is what you are talking about what piece of the equation are you selling? Testing services, equipment, etc? It is never too early to talk money. Why would you waste their time and your time if the numbers don’t work?

IF you are selling testing services and I had to throw a guess out there I would bench mark it on the low end with a basic lab sales job which would mean $50K base and $50K bonus like labcorp. On the high end benchmark it with oncology reference labs like Genomic Health where you could have a six figure base and earn another $75K to $100K.

If are selling analyzers (equipment) it could be all over the place.

Thank you so much for your information, I appreciate it. Yes in vitro diagnostics and it wouldn't be for a place like labcorp, I would be selling for the company that makes the tests, asking for referrals to places like labcorp, or for hospitals I would be potentially selling them testing kits. Just trying to figure what type of offer would be fair if I do get one. Are you in IVD sales? Where you pharma before? How does it differ day to day? Do you get more respect from the doctors in IVD sales? Thanks

From my experience there is not a physician on this planet who likes or respects anybody who may be able to potentially educate him/her on anything. They've put themselves on pedestals us mere mortals only dream of.

I agree D.D. And don't forget that when something goes wrong it's always the reps fault. I get it, I really do. Patients/staff don't want to work with a doctor who isn't self-assured/confident, however, arrogance benefits no one. In the past, I have had opportunities to see doctors/surgeons (residents) in training and believe me, they eat a lot of shit from everyone - Chiefs, Fellows, Attendings, Nurses, even Techs, etc. It's no excuse for being an asshole, but I think that might help explain why some of them are the way they are. That and they are also potentially liable for any negative outcomes thereby creating more stress for them. At the end of the day, everyone poops.

100% WRONG. I’m an oncology rep with 18 years of experience and I have forgotten more about oncology than any fellow coming out knows. I have placed more fellows in jobs because of my market knowledge, relationships and experience than you could imagine. Doctors put themselves on pedestals? Maybe in Redneck Middle America. On the coasts MD’s are not close to the wealthiest or most educated people in their neighborhood. With the mass drop in reimbursement most MD’s are looking for ways to make money and drug companies are great at helping them out with that.

What sucks about Café Pharma is the majority of the opinions are form sample dropping, mass market, primary care, big pharma, losers. I have not made less than $225k in the last 10 years and I’ve made a more than enough on stock options to rival most of my customer’s wealth.

I really don't know where you and poster #5 are coming from. In over 20 years doing this I've rarely run into docs like you speak of.
'It's not you, it's me'

just sayin

Yes. I don't know what the other posts are talking about. I've been in the biz for 30 years and made $1.7M last year NET. And by the way, my dick is bigger than yours.
