Do you ever call in sick to work when you really aren't?

I did it today! My manager knows too. He told me I could take an extra day since I have been working so hard lately and my numbers are really good. I am going to be a manager in a year!

If I could only break-in one more new manager before I retired, I wish it could be you. You'd shit your pants if you saw me in action and also if you had to ride with me.

Scaring the shit out of DMs in the car is my specialty but they can't say shit because I have a 'safe driver award'. They always 'have something to do' and want to leave early'..

PS - your avatar gave me a woody........

I thought that is what a "sick" day was for. . . Who is judge when you just cannot deal with one more nasty customer or cow. Better to stay home or chill then kill a relationship or sale.

Overall, I worked my tail off when in home office. You can't hide there. The hours ran between 12-13 a day.
As a rep, I was 'smart' about how I ran my territory. I sold hard but had great relationships also. Heck yes, after a few Prez Clubs, I can say I rarely worked a full day.

The fact is I loved my company and the people until it got sold off. Pharma is fleeting. Do what you love and do it well, but know it's not forever.

The same thing happened to me a few years ago - I was with a smaller sized company with a great culture that got gobbled up. It is alot different now working for 'big' pharma, but with solid relationships and knowing how to work smart, it is still part time work with fulltime pay.

Exactly BN. I know people who start later in the day and end later; others start early and end early. I was one of the early people which is why I hardly waited for other reps to come out.....they were not around in the AM! lol

Big pharma likes to use the 'track-tactics' or use the electronic leash to see when reps start, end, sample etc. Such bullshit. Selling is not about staying in the 'model'. This is what doctors detest. The best reps are pure salespeople and know what to say when and how.

In home office at my new company, I see more lack of accountability. Some people show up when they want, don't follow through on things, have no organization...disgraceful. If I could have started my own small business, I would have. Now - in this economy, forget it.

This is why sample reps should just stay happy. I was not. Now, I leave for work often at 6 am (having gotten up at 5) and am not home until 7 pm. Because I cannot do my admin requirements while driving, I have to spend half my weekend filing expenses reports, contracting, reading new clinicals, taking policy tests, answering emails. I have no life anymore at all. None. I am too old to do get picked up to do something different. Device would be even worse and pharma wants 'em young and hot still. Not much changes despite our companies and all their MBAs thinking they have "the new wheel". Nope. I would love to go back to a small/reasonable territory with samples running in and out and collecting signatures.

I actually remember having such a great Friday route. I could show up at this huge clinic at 10 and be done by Noon with 15 to 20 signatures. What was I thinking?

I have my 'Friday' route also - Especially in the Summer - Done and home by 1 pm with a cold drink and relaxing poolside. Can't beat it.
