Did We Lay Too Many People Off?

Here we go again! Do any of these "Leaders" really know what they are doing? Now the rumor on the street is that we laid off too many people last summer and last fall. What a joke. How about this? Let's ruin peoples lives and make them go back out onto the street looking for jobs unnecessarily. What a bunch of heartless losers. "One for all and One for Me"...... that should be the new AZ mantra!

Are you kidding?? The knife can cut way deeper than 2016 and still generate sales with less people. If we understand this, you know our fearless leaders know it too. If they really want to keep us around, AZ would open up ALL oncology/biological positions to internal employees ONLY, like other pharma companies do (yes AZ is the only company not hiring from within). But these selfish idiots who are running the show have it in there small minds that experience is needed, because we all know experienced reps will get better access. They would rather lay you off and then rehire someone else. This is the company we work for. What a great culture!

Absolutely right! I was one of those laid off last December with many many successful years with AZ. This is not the company I once knew. The one thing about the CNS division was they were a mature sales force who enjoyed on depth conversations with psych, were flexible in launching new drugs and some of the smartest people I have worked with..,, it still amazes me that they couldn't move these people in oncology and IO. Hell, many of these people were in oncology before that division downsized. You now work for a company who's culture is not to retain talent or promote from within . I'm glad I'm out.

The question isn't did AZ lay off too may? It should be did we lay off the wrong people?

Many examples of sales reps and managers that are not very good that are still here when they could have been easily replaced with someone who got the ax last year that had a much better track record. Probably took too much effort so senior leadership didn't want to be bothered. How is that working for you now in diabetes and respiratory?

Pretty sure these cuts came
down to reducing costs without regard as to who they were cutting. Most of these CVMET folks were well tenured and many were in the Zeneca legacy plan. AZ is doing all it can to systematically cut these employees with the least amount of legal ramifications. clearly they can't do it all at once, but make no mistake- if you are Zeneca legacy your days with the company are absolutely coming to an end very soon.

They know exactly what they are doing to cut costs and increase short term profitability. There is no loyalty or regard for anyone any more.

Yes, they do know what they are doing to deliver short term results to satisfy the street and so that is the way we live quarter to quarter. experience, core industry knowledge is not valued. In the end, too many or just the wrong people walked out the door last year. So now we get what we get with people running the show whether they really know what they are doing or not.

They are getting rid of the high cost people. Pensions, tenure, etc.

"They" can speak about engagement, development, etc., but as always the case, actions speak much louder. I keep in touch w/ many colleagues from around the country. People who were blueblood AZ loyalists. Many are distraught at what AZ has become. They are actively looking and do not believe a word from the leadership.

I have no problem sharing that the morale under Dominic F is God awful. This includes his DSM's and CBD's. D, you should know your team truly hates you (and I do not use that term lightly). What a great culture you have built. Freakin' mamaluke.

Remember the "AZ Pride" campaign to fend off Pfizer? Looking back, I would have welcomed that takeover now. This company sucks!

They did not lay off enough people. We are very top heavy. CBD and DSM roles don't have enough people reporting to them. With 3 reps per territory in respiratory and 2/days per rep per month, customers are sick of seeing the dsms.

They could easily cut 50% more of us and be fine. They can always hire more contract reps if needed. I, for one, still love it here because of the all day lie, which I am an avid practitioner. As long as I can work a 2 day week, I'm cool! And, you can't tell me that management doesn't know/condone it!

I don't think they would actively condone it but they certainly know it. They live it too, just not to the extent that reps do since they have to give the perception of working long hours.
Examples: kids consistently sick so they start the day much later since they have to find a baby sitter and/or take them to the MD's, the all time favorite 4:00PM conference call every day of the week, afternoon appt's w/ kids, critical "just dropped on them" projects that couldn't wait, rainy days (yup), etc.....
Ours thinks we don't see it but we do. Literally maybe 2.5-3 hours in the field counting as a full day and that includes lunch. And that IS the norm.
I wonder how many DSM's/DBM's are sweating a little reading this. I know one will.

"They" do not care. Does anyone respect their "leaders?"
