Did Covidien Purchase Barrx Medical

Barrx has great technology, with an easy delivery system to treat an under-treated population.

They are expecting huge growth, and new indications, and will probably target a larget physician base by going after more General Surgeons, than the companies previous strategy of targeting therapeutic GI physicians.

I like the potential for this company, and where it may lead into other therapies for other specialties.

I recently got a call about this gig. Can any current Barrx reps provide honest feedback on the acquisition? Also how are the GI's responding to this new therapy? Can this be a long term opportunity? Many thanks for your input.

NO BS, I would go for this one. For Covidien to purchase this group and give them as much autonomy as it appears they are going to,tells me that COV sees this one as a cash cow. The Product is as good as advertised and the market potential is huuuuuge, virtually untapped at something like less than 1% of eligible patient population.

Honestly, I interviewed for this one just a few weeks ago and lost out in the end to another gentleman. No bitter feelings I would go after this one again in a heartbeat. All of the research I did with customers and foregut surgeons was that this was the real deal just not a large enough sales force by themselves to promote the product they way it needed to be promoted. This is one of the very few opportunities that I have seen in several years that was truly exciting because of the technology, the future products and the very real market potential.

comp plan could be better... very aggressive at plan numbers... I think fewer than half made quota in 2011. Thus, aver comp was below plan...
Sales talent and professionalism is best i've seen...

There is a history of reimbursement denials with BARXX, there is another technology that covers a more diverse population, causes the customer less pain, and is easier to use. Check into the company CSA Medical. They have had issues like releasing their number one rep during the drawdowns for some stupid reason.
I don't work for them, I think they have great technology but haven't had the right management to make it happen.

Your CSA self promotional comment was really lacking credibility and accuracy. Why don't you tell the board how many lives are covered under each technology? Reimbursement is moving forward at light speed with Barrx, and has been extremely successful.

That was not self promotion, I don't work for CSA. More lives are under Barrx no question. That's not what I was stating. you are very defensive. I was referring to the challenges.
Are you saying there is no history of reimbursement issues? Are you saying you can use Barrx of all the indications CSA can? Are you saying there is less pain with Barrx?
If you are saying those 3 things you are a koolaid drinker. And do go betting there aren't others preparing to enter the field either. I know what I'm talking about-I spent a lot of years in this work too, I didn't show up in January.

I'm not the previous poster...
I've heard CSA shows promise for airway strictures. However, from the mouths of one of thier biggest users, he told me how the CSA rep was trying very hard to implicate more pain with RFA. To which he replied "um, no." Careful making unproven claims. Reps go to jail or that sh*t. And let's be honest, cryo has a ong way to go before it can reliably have the same tissue effect...and prove it the way RFA has. Agree, though, that cryo may have a future in other applications. BE is not one. Let us know when you have good data...

Well to you good data is nothing but one docs comments-I've spoken to docs that feel the opposite. I'm not selling either one-you guys have it. But I've watched many of these procedures and seen many in post procedure writhing in pain. Whatever. there is a big market for barxx and even bigger if the indications go to more common issues. Good luck, I know a few guys that left over the last 2 years and I can tell you their stories too.
Mr Defensive, stay in the koolaid-barxx has done a good job of being the market leader, I imagine that will continue for awhile anyway-till someone like Boston or other GI device manufacturer comes out with a competitive product and complete product line to back it.

Thanks for the good wishes, it's been a good ride and hope it continues. Honestly though, you hang out in recovery with many of our pts post procedure?! there is definitley some pain. "Writhing?" Really? Might be hard for a new company to overcome our IP and validate for some time. Not a lot of area to improve results... take it from 95% effective to 98%. Not sure there is a big enough window of potential clinical improvement for another firm to invest in this area. Cryo? nope. Time will tell.
