D&R is Safe

It was not performance based in any way. Several good people gone, while some barely competent survived. Consensus is the lay-offs had more to do with project assignments and Valeant's new strategic direction. Vision Care D&R took a much bigger hit than Pharma D&R.

Did it look like a culling of the poor performers or was it pretty random?

In St. Louis and Aliso, it looked about half & half. Could have got rid of a lot more nonsense positions. Maybe the new structure Mike Gowen has temporarily remained on to help build will do a better job of streamlining the organizational structures and re-localize the power allowing whatever the new manufacturing and operations groups are going to be called to operate and manage their businesses efficiently and profitably. It would be good to get out from under the thumb of an oppressive and frequently confused marketing group, a grossly under performing sales team, and a much misaligned quality organization.

The heading of this thread sucks. Can someone tell me how in the world
can R&D (what the F was Brent thinking to call us D&R) be safe.
They took out 50% of us in surgical, Pharma colleagues you are next.
You will not survive the next wave, look at their model, they are on the
record, they mean it and will cut you.
That is what they do so get out there and start looking. The market is getting
ripe again for jobs, I am getting a lot of calls and openly interviewing, go look for job, do it.
