And that’s why people who don’t leave after 1 year leave after 3 years. Novartis apparently doesn’t care about keeping talented people. There are plenty of other jobs available.

None of these Pharma companies can care less if you stay 1 year of 5 years anymore. Loyalty is not a trait in Pharma and the Rep is just a number and "X" amount of details per day. Reps need to treat this job as the Company treats the rep w/ No Loyalty. Reps are replaceable in a nano second and there is no special talent in being a Pharma Rep in 2019, it's a customer service job at best and the HQs are figuring out ways to cut pay and commissions yearly. There are companies out there already experimenting w/ 1/2 pay, part time work weeks because finally they are getting that it is a part time job at best.

they won't go to 1/2 time reps or whatever, because the market will destroy them and shareholders won't like it.

you are 100 percent correct on this industry. its definitely not sales. it never was. its just a robot corporate job, mostly because the FDA has such a big say on things.

finally, most intelligent people are not in this industry. we just have people with big mortgages, alcoholics, and below average talent, that couldn't find another gig.

younger people should not go into pharmaceutical sales because its a dead end. your best years, when you are young and full of energy, should go to starting a small business like mortgage financing, insurance. if you are not into that, then pharmacy school makes a lot of sense or nursing. leave the these corporate pharma jobs to the frat boys and cheerleaders.

You are a great role model for your children teaching them to lie and manipulate and being proud of it. I don't like what's going on with our division anymore than you do but I don't know how you sleep at night honestly.

I no longer work in Pharma but come by these boards once a month. I left because I used pharma as long as I needed to and was motivated enough early in my career to get out. I lasted a total of 18 years. At least 12 of those years I was disappointed with the company I worked for. Novartis was by far the worst. Everyone talks about going to the gym, golfing, taking the kids to school as reasons this is a great job. Maybe true, but this job was the best to start a full time business. For the last 12 years of my career, the first 3 years I started a manufacturing business part time. $40,000 start up and rented a warehouse. The last 9 years I worked the pharma sales job at little as possible and my business full time. I would not work pharma for many days just to get my business work done. So before people berate me and say I am a bad role model for ... ask me why I decided to do this. On the 5 and 6th years into my career I was in my early 30's. Launched a very expensive product and busted my ass. The bonus goal was $25,000/year. The majority of the sales force received much less than $25k. Some received almost 0. I decided if I hit the bonus in the future it is $500 a week. If I hit 80% of it becomes $400 a week. What can I make doing my own gig and make that much a week. On the day I left I made double my base salary and much more now. The morale of the story. If you work for pharma the deal is you work for them 40 hours a week if and only if they pay you a base salary and make the goals achievable. If not, start a business on their time. Time flies so 10 years from now you will wish you started today
