I can't wait for this to launch. Covidien's Curved Tip is single handedly responsible for the loss of some of my thoracic business. Not no more!!
It is a great product. My surgeons have tried it out. More superior than curved tip. It will be hard to replicate.

Were they impressed with the reduction of staple rows and need to open a new handle vs. COV?
Nothing on Ethicon's website about it. Must be a real winner with all the marketing dollars they are putting into it.
It seems that you are getting anxious and worry... keep on monitoring the 510(k)
It only has TWO rows of staples and requires a separate handle to be opened. Why the f@*k would we be anxious?! Unbelievably ridiculous "new" technology. My thoracic docs literally laughed when the rep couldn't answer why 2 rows of staples is now better than 3 for the most critical staple lines in a lobectomy. "But doctor, you get an extra 5 degrees of articulation!" Bahahahahahahaha..
Access is almost always the biggest issue in thoracics and its more than just 5 degrees. The thinner shaft gives much greater access. The number of staple rows isn't as important as maneuverability.

You must not have been around when the Baker article came out on staple formation and how three rows of staples is clinical benefit over two. It was one of the benefits when we launched a STRAIGHT, non articulating, Echelon.
