How is the culture at Gilead? Is it fair? Are people happy? I'm thinking about accepting a job in sales and hope this is still a great place to work.
Primary care all the way.
This company was protected during its growth years by $2.5 Billion a year Ryan White AIDS funding, a Hollywood lobby that would never let you limit HIV drugs (See Dallas Buyers Club), and little competition....totally insulated from the real world...selling on viral load not hard outcomes...
They are ZS Associates message jockeys all the way...
The other thing to think about is that 40% of management is gay and think they are living their life's purpose by selling these drugs to their "community"...and also have no family to balance out their work life balance perspective. Unless they adopt 2-3 babies..and almost none do...their job IS their life. The few breeders that make it into management are soon divorced once their wife realizes they can have half the RSU's in the divorce settlement from the husband they never see..
GILD has a terrible rep in the bay are amongst biotech companies..
They engineered a "development" program in 2012 in response to the terrible reputation and turnover they earned but still leave 40% of your rating based on fluffy bullshit so that even if you kill it with a couple PClubs your first couple years they have enough wiggle room to deny you the opportunities you have earned.
I work in Foster City. Culture was and still is TOXIC.
It's an "all about me" culture, collaboration and teamwork a stated value, individual's compete against each other all the time. Working at GILD was the first time I heard the phrase "XXX threw me under the bus" ON A DAILY BASIS.
Opportunity and advancement is based on "who" you know and "how much" they like you. Qualifications for any job should include "must be a brown nose, butt kisser preferred". This is also reflected in TS appointments to the rotation jobs. Once you present a view counter to that of the SLT or your direct manager, you might as well pack up your box and head home.
Would I recommend GILD? -- Absolutely not.

Hey
Would you say the culture of throwing under the bus and back stabbing exists only in sales/marketing or everywhere in here?
Gilead "was" a great place to work. It has changed in a very short time to extreme greed in terms of the executive management team. During the recent National Sales meeting in Orlando... we ( the lowly reps! ) were shown the vast wealth that our SVP and even our SRD have in relation to the low salery and bonus potential of the TS. Refernece was even made to the billionaire status of our not so generous CEO....very poor taste! Have they even considered sharing the wealth? How about establishing a "real" pension for the long standing loyal empolyee!
Gilead is as toxic black mold.
It is a requirement that all Directors and above have a commercial driver's license to drive that bus.
Anyone riding the elevator in 303 knows to keep there back up against the wall to avoid getting stabbed.
Treating co-workers like cockroaches is common across all departments. Commercial Operations and Marketing are the worst. The leadershi+ on these teams condone this behavior. Stay away from anyone in the ComOps team led by MT. This group is truly led by a coven of witches.
