Crazy week..

While it’s never a good thing whenever people lose their jobs, it was definitely time to reorganize the Renal sales team. There were several territories that were not successful or were just barely making it, consistently, quarter over quarter. The more profitable territories were clearly subsidizing the struggling ones.

Rinse and Repeat. This has been the OPKO strategy from the beginning. Expand and Contract. The solution is to sell the drug and take whatever they can get for the compound. Same as BoneCare strategy years ago. Come on Charlie. Aren’t you tired of pretending?

Charlie is personable and will tell you what you want to hear. Problem is that his talk does not translate to anything clinically meaningful to actual nephrologists. If it did there would be a stable of well respected thought leaders eager to provide published studies confirming his presentations. But give the guy credit. He has become very wealthy selling his ideas. Maybe OPKO was the wrong partner.

The failure to invest in clinical trials to demonstrate meaningful outcomes has greatly limited access. Going cheap with a couple of in-house studies wasn't the blueprint for success.
