How many times do we have to listen to the same old Sales Directors drone on about "clinically differentiated" products that we have? WE HAVE NOTHING CLINICAL DIFFERENTIATED! I cannot overstate this enough. Please, stop badgering us with the drivel. Our shit sucks. Docs don't want to talk to us. Most of my surgeons pick up the pace walking the other way when they see me. As soon as most nurses see me, they ask "what are you doing here?" It's driving me nuts how the directors are telling us a bunch of bullshit. Not a single person in my accounts is welcoming of any Ethicon presence but yet we're supposed to coast in there and save the day?!? Gimme a break! This company sucks a fatty!

Don't tell me you are just now realizing how bad it is here?!? Unless you're living under a damn rock then you know it's useless to worry about this stuff. There isn't anything you can do. Best to just be friendly to your docs and help in other ways. Offer to wash his car. Or caddy for him during a weekend round at the country club. Think outside the box. Our days of providing any value in the OR are way over. Sucker.
 






More and more, products are being considered commodities- it's a tough fight. We are becoming more account managers than sales reps. I can deal with that as it keeps me busy. What's frustrating though is that if you're running an $8 mil territory they make it impossible to earn $80K, or 1% commission - 1%! Many people who earn a commission one quarter end up having to pay some/all back the following quarter.

The comp. plan is so convoluted, you have a better chance navigating a mine field blindfolded than maximizing your compensation. In 15 years medical sales, it's the most demotivating plan I've ever seen.
 












Agree on the plan.

Disagree on the value. If your customers walk the other way when they see you in the OR it might just be you. Try deodorant.

aah, coming from the ivory tower I am sure. Have been doing this for 10+ years at Ethicon and had quite a few "new" accounts recently where had no relationship or background. Trust me, we overinflate our self worth and "value" to the hospital and docs..

Ethicon reps are terrible. Plain and simple. Not at all surprised to hear your docs are running away from you because I'm sure that happens much more often than most realize. Never met an ethicon rep that couldn't be easily replaced.
 


















Crappy Heritage Products? What about horrible new products? Articu;ating Enseal? Two Row Vascular? GST that doesn't mean shit when buttress is applied in the #1 procedure? Two row POS endostapler that docs will only use if forced by admin for compliance?

While we're looking at our old shit let's not ignore the fact that 100% of our new shit is crap too.
 






If you are unhappy, then the best thing you can do is walk away. The culture is only going to get worse, if that is even possible.

There is no credo, there is no hope, and everyone knows it.

You don't have to be likable or a good salesmen to be successful, you just need to be a robot for your manager.

The only people hanging on are the older reps and shitty managers because they are getting overpaid. Get out while you can and start a new career.

The "time to get out" was a long time ago my friend. If you're working for Ethicon now, you are absolutely screwed. Bad products, even worse leadership, the worst culture. Rock on dingleberries.
