Covidien Surgical Eliminating Corporate Jobs

Talked to a long time support person at former USS , they are eliminating most corporate support people in Finance, Contracts, Distribution, Customer Service and MIS. Same thing J&J did, bad news for not only thouse who work for COV but bad for us sellers, how are we supposed to gain new talent when we can't get anyone knowledgeable on the phone.

It's true. They are eliminating positions or "restructuring" getting rid of long time employees and the jobs are "moving" to Mansfield. Today it takes days to get someone in corporate to help us, not that I blame them they are allready overworked before this happened. Most now don't care. When a company does this much radical change look out, that means they will eventually "Restructure" the sales force. Maybe the Kendall guys will eventually start to learn how to see Mesh?

I don't see the downside of consolidating redundant back office positions. Yes, there will be a short term learning curve for newly aquired responsibilities but, the hiring spree of the last two years had to end. Would you rather they cut sales and marketing or push for greater efficiency among non-revenue generating sectors?

Losing long time colleagues sucks but this is a business not a social club.

Consolidation is the name of the game. Two things are happening: one, they are closing the old U.S. Surgical office in Norwalk and moving it to North Haven, closer to the manufacturing plant. I think that's a smart move.
Second, the redundant positions moving to Mansfield was bound to happen. Too many overlapping positions. Most, if not all, were offered positions in Mansfield but couldn't or didn't want to move. I'll miss the folks who worked in Norwalk immensely.

First the closing of Norwalk is not related to the Shared Services positions. Norwalk has been on the choping block since Tyco purchased USS.
Not all actually no one was offered positions in Mansfield, they can apply for positions but there are not as many available. For instance if there is a team of 15 Collectors , they dont need those 15 in Mansfield since they have them allready , they may only need 6 or 7.
What has happened to the old USS people is nothing short of sad.

A recruiter left me a message last Friday-He just said a Surgical/OR position was available with Covidien. What divisions are 'the good divisions' to work for? I'm currently selling devices in the OR, but wasn't really looking to make a move but I always 'listen'. Is this a good company? Good pay? Looking for honest answers please. Is this thread talking about 'all' divisions possibly restructuring? A buddy of mine (Surgeon) told me that Covidien has a high turn over-Is this true? He said every rep he see's is less experienced/knowledgeable than the rep prior and they have lost his respect. Can anyone shed some light?

Your surgeon buddy is right. Us with over 10 years of experience are few. In fact I have heard through my contacts that a major salesforce restructing is going to take place with the Valleylab group. Steer clear of that group.

Turnover rate is not as high in Autosuture and Syneture. If you're looking for a "good" division I would say Autosuture since the financial upside is always stronger and more products are launched on that end.

Know a lot of managers and reps in the 7-18 years range with them. It's tough for them to leave since they're doing so well and they would have to take a step back financially if they changed companies. I'm defining well as $175k to $300k consistently. Most companies except for a few give you the $125-150k pitch. There are very few above that initially and the companies that do, the reps aren't leaving.

Strong comp plan but it all depends on what you are doing now. If you're in a specialty arena like ortho, spine, etc. I would say no way and stay where you're at. This is meant more for the strong b2b, distributor rep (usually looking for benefits, car, expenses paid that the dist. company is not paying), DME or pharma rep who is looking to get into OR sales or parlay their contacts into this position.

Hope this helps.

Don't work for Covidien EBD, thats all I am going to say. Lying cheating management. No support from Corporate. If you don't hit their ridiculous plan for whatever reason you are put on a plan and fired in 60 days. STAY AWAY. Covidien EBD has one of the highest turnover rates of any medical device company in the country. From my training class 3 years ago, there is only 2 reps left out of 21. You do the math.
