Could Kellen Moore play at the next level?

I really like Kellen Moore. He's not pompous, arrogant nor does he outwardly exude what we generally consider to be leadership skills in a star quarterback. And he doesn't look like an athlete when the pads come off. Kellen is not a standout physical specimen. The announcer even compared him with "The Beav" from the old show 'Leave it to Beaver'. But that's why I like him so much. Despite lacking the natural attributes of, let's say, a Cam Newton - the man has been a tremendous college football success story and is a leading Heisman candidate. I always have much more respect for a guy who had to compensate for his shortcomings with hard work to achieve greatness than the next guy who was simply born with the gifts to be great.

With that said, I asked myself whether Kellen Moore would make it at the next level? Let's face it - those 240 pound LB's who run a 4.4 sec. forty sting when they blindside. How many of those hits could Kellen take? He has proven to be tough, both mentally and physically at the college level. I have seen him get hammered and get right back up again. And to my recollection, he has never missed a game due to injuries. He's a tough hombre.

Another fact is that Kellen is just not a running QB. That's not his forte. But do you have to be in order to be a great QB in the pros? Well, the running threat certainly helps. But there have been many pro QB's who couldn't run worth a damn. Sonny Jurgenson, Johnny Unitas, Rex Grossman, Joe Namath, Joe Montana - none of them were great runners. So I don't think that would be a huge obstacle for Kellen.

Kellen's strong point is that he can thread a needle with a football. You saw him in the Georgia game. He can throw off balance inbetween 3 defenders and still hit his target. His interception ratio has been extremely low throughout his college career. The man has a golden arm.

Did you see his new wife in the stands? I think her name was Julie? They look like they were made for one another. Childhood sweethearts. The American love story. Mom, apple pie and the girl next door.

Do I think Kellen can go to the next level? No doubt about it. I think he will surprise a lot of people. He won't go in the top few rounds - even if he wins the Heisman. Teams will be a little hesitant to put him on the payroll. The natural physical attributes just aren't there. But one thing you can't measure are persistence, drive, a competitive spirit, the will to win and to overcome obstacles. Kellen gets an A+ on those across the board.

I think we will be watching Kellen on Sunday afternoons.

What say you?

I definitely think that Kellen could play at the next level. Just look at Greg McElroy (Former Alabama QB) he and Kellen are actually a lot alike. Admittedly Kellen is a better QB but I am comparing them concerning their physical attributes and strong moral compass, maturity and dedication to the game. Kellen could definitely be a back up QB like Greg at the New York Jets. Unfortunately Greg is out for the season due to injury but performed very well in pre-season. My point is Kellen doesn't need to be built like a brick shit house but he has one hell of an arm and is a good field general. He like Greg is also humble yet confidant.

Concerning Boise State, there is more rumbling out there that Texas and Oklahoma might join the Pac12. The Pac12 might expand to 16 teams and I am sure that Boise will get an invite in that 16 team conference.

Moore will make it. Peyton couldn't due any of the extras either. Moore is smart as shit.

Yeah, I agree. Kellen's ability to read defenses and adapt must be phenomenal. But his skill at threading the needle with that football is unmatched in college football today. I don't know any college QB with that kind of accuracy. He threw one interception last game and that as about as rare as a two-headed dog. He seems like a tough kid. I've seen him take some nasty blind-sided hits and he gets right back up again. I am just concerned about his size in the pros. He's not that tall and is not a runner. I have no doubt he'll get a chance to prove himself. I bet he surprises a lot of people at the end of the day.

Holy winnabagos!

Kellen threw 32 for 42 (76%) racking up 455 passing yards against Toledo.

The guy's a friggin' stud!

The NFL scouts must be lickin' their chops!

You go, Kellen! :)

If Kellen Moore and Tim Tebow could be melded into one QB, we would have a superstar.

Accuracy and intelligence are the two key ingredients of a really successful NFL quarterback. Moore is a lot like Colt McCoy who is doing well so far.

Moore is very similar to Drew Brees who has been successful over a very long career, has racked up a Super Bowl win and is considered to be in the top echelon of NFL quarterback like Peyton and Brady.

I think the kid has a very good chance. He may not start that much. He may never be a superstar, but the guy can definitely earn a paycheck in the NFL IMO for several years if not a decade or more and best case scenario he could be another Drew Brees.
