Cost of Medicaid

I wonder if those "costs" we read about are the actual fees charged by the doctors, hospitals, etc, and not the actual payouts that medicaid and medicare actually pay. I know for a fact my internal medicine doc gets about $22 for every medicaid patient he sees -- and he has to wait 60 days for the payment. Hospitals get less than 25% of the total bill for medicaid/medicare patients as well (it's the same with insurance -- has to do with contracted pricing for various procedures, etc.) In SC the medicaid patient now has to pay for the tests to be done, or at least a portion of them, so now there will be fewer tests to reimburse as well.

Isn't government distortion of the market and cost-shifting a great thing?

Isn't this the sort of thing we need more of with Obamacare?

We've got to repeal Obamacare and do some major work on Medicare if we are going to have decent healthcare and keep from going broke!

The device I sell has the highest contract rate with Medicare and Medicaid. Go figure. Medicare and Medicaid cuts need to happen with pharmaceuticals, devices and labs.

Go after the fraud perpetuated by all sorts of providers to include Day Cares, Nursing Homes and transportation providers. Sadly, most of the CEOs are connected politically and wear teflon. It is a small wonder that it keeps getting harder and harder to precert treatments and medications for the actual patients when the big boys and girls are getting their bloated cut off the top. I know "benfits" vary from state to state. In my state there have been no additional Homebound Waivers approved in 18 months. This is forcing many disabled into nursing homes while they are cognitively fit. It is shameful to force someone like that into a semi private hospital room where they are stripped of their privacy and dignity. The house doctors are mere script writers. The folks who control the charts, control what goes on.....to include way too much input relative to medication. If" Mrs. Smith" who is cognitively fit, is running around too much in her wheelchair and not compliant about staying in her room, it is a simple matter of telling the doctor that she is exhibiting psychotic features and she gets sent to Never Neverland. The charts reflect whatever the head nurse wants them to. The same thing happens in Day Care but to a lesser extent. I better shut up as it all looks pretty hopeless to me now.
